BLOOMSBURG, PA -
Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) and
Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) both shined, but the Bloomsburg University wrestling team dropped a pair of home contests to Appalachian State and Columbia Saturday afternoon. The Huskies were defeated 32-6 by App State in the first match of the afternoon, and later fell by a final of 30-9 to Columbia. Bloomsburg drops to 3-12 in dual matches heading into the final match of the regular season tomorrow against Bucknell.
The Mountaineers were red hot early against the Huskies, winning the first two matches by technical fall and pinfall to take an 11-0 lead after just two matches. Appalachian State would extend its lead to 22-0 after a technical fall victory at 174 pounds for Thomas Flitz, but Allard would break the skid with a 5-3 upset victory over 27th-ranked Alan Clothier at 184 pounds.
Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) looked to continue the comeback with a major upset victory over 13th-ranked Randall Diabe at 197 pounds, as the two were locked in a 1-1 tie entering the final period, but Diabe was able to take down Murphy midway through the third to hang on for the 3-1 victory.
Girard would notch the Huskies only other win in the contest, downing App State's De'Andre Swinson-Barr via decision, 11-8, at 125 pounds.Â
