THE STORY
• The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team looks to make it straight wins to start the season when they host Wilmington (DE) Friday evening. The Huskies are 1-0 on the new campaign after an impressive 17-10 win over Georgian Court Tuesday, while the Wildcats are winless in two games thus far.
THE HISTORY: BLOOMSBURG vs. WILMINGTON (DE)
• The Huskies lead the all-time series with Wilmington, 2-0, including a 22-8 Bloomsburg win last March.
Sydney Collins (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) notched a game-high four goals for the Huskies, while
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) finished with four saves between the pipes. The first meeting between the teams took place back on March 9, 2017, with Bloomsburg claiming an 18-1 victory.
THE HUSKIES AT A GLANCE
•
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) notched five goals and an assist as the Huskies opened the 2019 season with an impressive 17-10 home win over Georgian Court Tuesday afternoon. Jaskuta was one of two Huskies to amass five goals on the afternoon, as redshirt sophomore
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) also tallied five goals in the victory.
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) chipped in two goals and an assist, while
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished with a team-high two assists. DiPasquale was fantastic between the pipes for Bloomsburg, turning away 16 Georgian Court shots in the complete game victory.
• The 2019 Bloomsburg lineup is powered by a trio of All-PSAC selections from a season ago in DiPasquale, seniorÂ
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape), and sophomoreÂ
Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area). Nocito was a key anchor of the Huskies defense in 2018, ranking second on the team in ground balls (49) and caused turnovers (36). The senior played in all 18 games (including 17 starts), and helped Bloomsburg lead the conference in caused turnovers (283) as a team.
• DiPasquale started all 18 games in goal for Bloomsburg, and earned second team All-PSAC honors after posting a 12.79 goals against average (GAA) and .430 save percentage. She ranked third in the conference in saves (176), and fifth in saves per game (9.78) on the year.
• Diachynsky played in all 18 games as a freshman, and ranked fourth in the PSAC in caused turnovers with 40. She was third on the team in ground balls (41), and helped the Huskies become just one of two teams to collect at least 500 ground balls in 2018.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATSÂ
• The Wildcats have yet to earn a victory on the young season after dropping their first two contests to Shippensburg and Millersville, respectively. Wilmington was picked to finish fifth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this season following a 7-10 record and an appearance in the CACC Tournament a year ago.
• Lashay Ross and Brooke Siebert tallied two goals apiece and Delaney Steele added a goal an assists, but the Wildcats fell to 0-2 on the season with a 16-7 loss at Millersville Wednesday. The Marauders poured in 10 first-half goals in the win.
• Wilmington is led by Ross, who earned first team All-CACC honors in 2018 after setting a new program record with 157 draw controls from the midfield position. The redshirt junior was fifth in the conference in goals scored (60) and eighth in total points (71). Ross has been dominant again this season, leading the Wildcats in points (8), goals (7), and draws (8) through two games.
LOOKING AHEAD
• The Huskies continue a string of four consecutive games against CACC opponents to open the season when they travel to Chestnut Hill this Tuesday, March 5. Bloomsburg will then host Jefferson on Friday, March 8, before traveling to Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 13 to take on Queens University. First Draw with the Griffins is set for 6:30 p.m.
