The Bloomsburg University field hockey team looks to bounce back from a season-opening overtime loss when it hits the road for the first time in 2019 to take on the second-ranked Golden Rams of West Chester in a non-conference matchup. The Huskies suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Bellarmine on Sunday while the Golden Rams knocked off #8 Stonehill, 3-1, on Friday night in its season opener.
ALL-TIME SERIES
West Chester leads the all-time series against Bloomsburg, 11-4. The Golden Rams have won nine straight dating back to Bloomsburg's last victory over West Chester on October 6, 2012. Last season, West Chester defeated the Huskies, 4-0, in the only meeting between the two schools. Katie Thompson scored twice for the Golden Rams, who held an 18-3 advantage in shots over the Huskies in the contest.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies were ranked ninth in the country according to the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) preseason poll released last week but, despite holding a 26-8 advantage in shots and a 22-8 margin in penalty corners, Bloomsburg dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at home against Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon to open the 2019 campaign. Sophomore
Foto Tsioles (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) scored the lone Bloomsburg goal early in the fourth quarter off of an assist from senior
Rachael Strockbine (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) but the Knights were able to win it in the extra session when Lindsay Reynolds beat junior goalkeeper
Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) with 3:17 left in the first overtime. Barnard was credited with five saves on the afternoon.
SCOUTING WEST CHESTER
West Chester is ranked second in the country according to the Penn Monto/NFHCA preseason poll and is off to a good start after knocking off eighth-ranked Stonehill, 3-1, on Friday night at Vonnie Gros Field. Caitlin Kelly, Caitie McNamara, and Kat Roncoroni scored for the Golden Rams while Katie Thompson had a pair of assists to help pace the offense. Claire Nelson got the call in goal and turned aside four shots to earn the victory. The Golden Rams held a 21-9 shot advantage and a 10-6 margin in penalty corners.
