COMPLETE RESULTS
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team won its sixth consecutive meet on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies knocked off visiting East Stroudsburg University, 115-78, at the Nelson Field House Pool. Bloomsburg improved to 6-2 on the season while the Warriors dropped to 5-3 on the year.
Sophomores
Elizabeth Turner (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and
Emily Smith (Youngwood, Pa./Hempfield) each posted Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times on Saturday to give each member on this year's roster a conference mark on the season. Turner posted a time of 55.98 in the 100-yard freestyle while Smith swam a 2:18.52 in the 200-yard butterfly to get under the standard in that event.
Bloomsburg totaled 20 PSAC times during the meet with seniors
Becca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and
Kiera Wadsworth (Blakeslee, Pa./Ridley), juniors
Lindsay Mooney (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and
Kristen Bane (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands), sophomores
Carlie Owens (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and
Liz Jackson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), and freshman
Jenna Park (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) leading the way with two apiece. Juniors
Chelsea Ackerson (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and
Kelley McHugh (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower), sophomores Turner and Smith, and freshmen
Grace Beierschmitt (Dover, PA/Dover) and
Courtney Hubric (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) each had one PSAC mark on the day.
Nine different Huskies collected victories on Saturday with Wadsworth and Hubric leading the way with two each - one individual and one relay. Ackerson, Cubbler, Park, Jackson, and Mooney each had individual wins while Bane and senior
Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) were part of the 200-yard medley relay team - along with Wadsworth and Hubric - that opened the meet with a victory. The foursome posted a time of 1:49.57 to win by more than seven seconds over East Stroudsburg's top quartet.
Ackerson earned her victory in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:24.40 - nearly a minute faster than East Stroudsburg's Tarah Killane, who placed second. Cubbler followed with a win in the 200-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 1:58.68. Hubric took second (2:02.72), redshirt sophomore
Sarah Campion (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) was third (2:04.00), and freshman
Alicia Lehman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) placed fourth (2:04.13) in the event.
The Huskies also had the four fastest times in the 50-yard freestyle as Park won with a time of 24.78 - just ahead of Mooney's 25.06. Owens was third with a time of 25.61 while Beierschmitt was fourth after touching the wall in 25.77.
Jackson won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.75 with Bane placing second (2:18.21). Mooney then won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.27 with sophomore
Julie Marchioni (Reynoldsville, Pa./DuBois Area) taking second with a time of 1:02.53. Hubric followed with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.87 - four-tenths of a second faster than Cubbler's second-place result of 54.27. Wadsworth earned the Huskies' last win of the day with a time of 59.10 in the 100-yard backstroke. Beierschmitt (1:03.25), Campion (1:03.63), and Ball (1:03.66) placed second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Bloomsburg will wrap up the regular season next Friday and Saturday, January 31, and February 1, when it heads to IUP to compete in the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational.
