BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Freshman
Courtney Hubric (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) of the Bloomsburg University women's swimming team has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Freshman of the Year as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. By claiming the major postseason honor, Hubric becomes the program's first-ever recipient of the award.
Hubric capped off a sensational freshman season in the pool by posting five top-eight finishes at the PSAC Championships and totaling 55 points in the overall team standings. She earned a pair of All-Conference accolades after her second-place result in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.62) and a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (23.67). She also had a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.62), a fifth-place result in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:33.33), and a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (52.78). Hubric also competed in the 100-yard butterfly at the conference meet and took 20th overall - fourth in the C final - with a time of 1:00.90.
She was seventh among Bloomsburg swimmers in points at the conference championships and helped the Huskies to their second consecutive third-place finish. It marked the sixth straight year that the program has finished in the top three at the league meet.
Hubric finished the year ranked fourth in the conference in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 23.64 and was fifth in the 50-yard butterfly with a season-best mark of 26.82. She was also 11th in the 100-yard freestyle (52.78) and 26th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.66) at the season's end.
Back in October, Hubric claimed PSAC Women's Swimmer of the Week accolades for her efforts in the Huskies' victory over Susquehanna. Hubric won the first four events of her collegiate career during the dual - picking up victories in the 50-yard butterfly (26.82), the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.27), and the 100-yard freestyle (54.49). She then was the freestyle leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that touched first (1:49.93) to close out the meet.
