CLARION, Pa. – Senior
Alex Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) took third in the 157-pound bracket to lead the Bloomsburg University wrestling team at the Clarion Open to kick off the 2021-22 season. Carida and the Huskies finished 14
th over with 53.5 team points.

Carida opened the day with a 3-1 decision in extra time in the opening round before advancing to the quarterfinals in the 157-pound bracket with another 3-1 overtime decision. After getting a medical forfeit in the quarter finals, Carida fell in the semifinal's bout 8-6 but rebounds in the third-place match. Carida finished the day with 2-1 win over Drew Munch from Lehigh to bring home the third-place finish.

Redshirt junior
Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) went 3-2 for the Huskies through the 141-pound championship and consolation bracket. Mason opened the tournament with a fall just 2:08 into the match over Conner Quinn from Maryland. After taking a loss in the round of 32, Mason got another fall over Michael Lewarchick from Kent State in just 1:26. The New Ringgold, Pa. native got his quickest fall of the day, just 55 seconds into the match over Sean Wang from Penn State as an unattached wrestler.

Freshman
Cade Balestrini (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) made his debut for the Huskies with a 3-2 day at 149 pounds. He received a bye in the first round before getting a fall over Matt Ryan (Unattached – Buffalo) at 4:15. A 6-4 loss in the quarterfinals sent him to the consolation bracket where he won 6-4 in his first match of the bracket against Walker Heard from West Virginia.

Tal-Reese Flemming (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had a good first tournament for the Huskies as he went 2-2 at 141 pounds with a 13-8 decision over Sean Wang and a 6-4 decision against Jonathan Miranda from Navy. Junior
Bruno Stolfi (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) also finished the day 2-2 at 184 pounds with a fall just 1:38 into his second match of the day against James Watterson and a fall at 1:07 in his third match over Fabio Preka.

Bronson Garber (Millersburg, Pa./Upper Dauphin) finished the day 2-2 with his first two wins as a Husky. He picked up a 10-6 decision over Patrick Adams of Buffalo and a 6-5 decision over un-rostered Constantinos Gourgoulianias.

Aaron Coleman (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) went 2-1 for the Huskies at 141 pounds with a 5-4 decision over Ben Freeman from Buffalo and an 8-6 decision over Jake Cherry from Pittsburg while redshirt sophomore earned a 7-4 decision in the heavy weight bouts.

Josh Bonomo (Sweet Valley/Lake-Lehman ), son of two-time All-American Rocky Bonomo – earned his first win as a Husky with a 4-3 win over Emory Taylor from Pittsburgh (Unattached) in the consolation bracket of 157 pounds.

Anthony DeRosa () won his first match at BU as an unattached wrestler with a 5-3 decision in his first match of the day.
