Wrestling Splits a Pair of Duals at Duke

The Huskies defeated The Citadel 21-15 before falling to Duke, 29-9

DURHAM, N.C. - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team split a pair of non-conference duals on Sunday at Duke University. The Huskies opened the day with a 21-15 win over The Citadel before falling to Duke, 29-9 in the second match of the day. The Huskies improved to 4-2 in duals following the day. 

The Citadel and Bloomsburg started the match with the 184 bout and Citadel opened the day with a 3-2 decision to take a 3-0 lead in the match. David Tuttle (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville) gave the Huskies a 6-3 lead with a fall over Ben Stemmett at the 5:31 mark in the 197 pound match. After Citadel tied the match at 285 with a 12-7 decision by Michael McAleavey, Bronson Garber (Millersburg, Pa./Upper Dauphin) won 2-0 at the 125 pound bout. Joke Rotunda took the 133 pound bout before the Huskies won three-straight matches take command of the dual. 

Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) kicked off the string of wins with a fall at the 0:38 mark at 141 pounds beofre Cade Ballestrini won 9-4 at 149. Alex Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) gave the Huskies a 21-9 lead with a 4-3 decision over No. 30 Dazjon Casto at 157 pounds. The Citadel got wins in the 165 pound and 174 pound bouts but could not overtake the Huskies lead. 

Duke and Bloomsburg also started at the 185 pound bout and the Blue Devils won the first four matches. Cole Rhone (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) got the Huskies on the board with a 7-1 decision over Drake Doolittle at 133 pounds. Aaron Coleman (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) followed suit with a 7-0 win over Patrick Rowland at 141 pounds. Carida won the final match for Bloomsburg with a 5-2 decision over Wade Unger at 157 pounds for his second win of the day. 

The Huskies return to action after Christmas as they travel to the Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern University on December 29 and 30.
