LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2021-22 indoor season in impressive fashion as the Huskies collected 10 automatic qualifiers for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Championship meet at the Bison Opener at Bucknell University, Saturday.
Along with the qualifiers, the women's team collected 13 top-10 finishes during the day.
The Huskies picked up a pair of PSAC qualifying times in the women's 400-meter dash as
Sarah Castronova (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) finished fourth overall with a time of 1:00.55 on the flat track which converts to a 59.76 on the oversized track for the PSAC meet.
Delaney Porter () joined Castronova with a converted qualifying time as she ran a 1:01.03 to take fifth, which converts to a 1:00.23.
Melissa Sicinski (Fountainville, Pa./Pennridge) took 10
th overall in the 400-meter dash as she crossed the finish line at 1:02.27.
Phoebe Patterson () took 10
th overall in the 200-meter dash as she ran a 27.17 in her first indoor meet with the Huskies.
Bloomsburg had a solid showing in the 3,000-meter run as the Huskies finished third through sixth.
Kelley Selheimer (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) led the pack with a third-place finish with a time of 10:48.03 while
Emma Fortune (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./James M. Coughlin) was fourth at 11:12.27.
Gabrielle Wetzel (Manchester Township, NJ/Manchester Township) finished fifth overall with a time of 11:32.53 and Jaime Diedel grabbed sixth with a time of 11:37.72.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Castronova,
Megan Gambogi (), Sicinski, and Porter finished seventh overall with a time of 4:18.83.
In the field events, the Huskies posted four individual PSAC qualifiers.
Ashley Blannard (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) took fourth overall in the long jump with a PSAC distance of 5.52 meters (18' 1.5") while
Dahlia Hosey (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) took sixth with a distance of 5.38 meters (17' 8.5") to qualify for the PSAC meet as well. Hosey then took third overall in the triple jump at 11.51 meters (37' 9.25") and Blannard finished sixth with a jump of 11.39 meters (37' 4.5").
A trio of Huskies opened the meet on Friday with the pentathlon. Erin Rotloff led the way with 2456 points for 12
th while
Lauren O'Malley (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) finished with 2446 points for 13
th.
Bailey Corrigan (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) finished 16
th with 1679 points.
On the men's side, the Huskies posted three PSAC qualifying standards and five top-10 finishes.
Tyler Bailey (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) posted a PSAC-qualifying time and finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.22 while
Andrew Basile (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) finished sixth with a time of 2:05.20.
Liam Grayson (/) ran a 2:14.62 to take eighth overall.
Hank Anderson (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) finished second overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.24 to earn a spot at the PSAC Indoor Championship and is just 0.01 off the NCAA provisional time. Anderson qualified for the finals with a run of 8.43 to take third in the prelims.
Anderson went on to qualify for the long jump with a distance of 6.98 meters (22' 11") to win the event.
The Huskies are back in action after the holiday break on January 15 as they head to Susquehanna University for the SU Invite in Selinsgrove, Pa.
