SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's track and field team kicked off the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Thursday. The Huskies are one of seven teams without a point after the day of events.

Freshman
Gabrielle Wetzel (Manchester Township, NJ/Manchester Township) turned in her best time of the season in the 10,000-meter run as she finished 10
th overall at 42:00.15. She was just 17 seconds off of a podium spot in her first career championship event. Sophomore
Emma Fortune (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./James M. Coughlin) took 17
th overall with a time of 44:01.46.

Becca Avery (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) took 13
th overall in the hammer as she posted a best-distance of 39.89 meters (130' 10").

In the women's heptathlon, junior
Lauren O'Malley (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) sits at 16
th overall with 1867 points after the first four events. O'Malley took 14
th overall in the 100-meter hurdles with personal-best time of 18.05 and 15
th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.99. She finished 12
th overall in the shot put with a throw of 8.17 meters and 15
th in the high jump with a height of 1.31 meters.

O'Malley will finish out the heptathlon with the 800-meter run, long jump, and javelin throw Friday.

The Huskies get back to action on Friday in the second day of the PSAC Outdoor Championships. The day is set to begin at 10:30 with the conclusion of the heptathlon events.Â
