No. 6 Field Hockey Travels to No. 3 Millersville for PSAC Tournament Opening Round

The Bloomsburg field hockey team clinched the No. 6 seed in the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament and is headed to No. 3 Millersville for the opening round game on Tuesday, November 15.

THE GAME

The Huskies come into Tuesday’s game with a 9-8 overall record after defeating Slippery Rock 2-1 on Senior Day to wrap up the regular season and clinch their playoff spot. The Marauders enter the game 14-4 on the year after defeating Mansfield 1-0 in their regular-season finale. 

PSAC TOURNAMENT 

  • The Huskies are making their 36th appearance in the PSAC Tournament and first since the 2018 season. Bloomsburg has 18 PSAC Titles in school history.
  • The Marauders are making their 11th-straight appearance in the tournament and hosting for just the fourth time.
  • The Huskies and Marauders last met in the PSAC Tournament in 2016 when the Marauders edged out the Huskies 2-0.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • Bloomsburg boasts one of the top defenses in the PSAC. Senior Abby Shaffer has an impressive .832 save percentage and seven shutouts this year. She boasts a 1.50 goals-against average. The defense has allowed 126 penalty corners.
  • The Huskies have six players with a defensive save, led by sophomore Meg Barnard with three. Sophomore Bella Culp has two, while seniors Bri Doebler, Carlee Williams, freshman Jasmine Fink, and sophomore Lillie Weaver all have one.
  • Offensive, senior Meghan Longenhagen lead the Huskies with seven goals and one assist for 15 points this year. Three of Meghan’s goals were game-winners for the Huskies.
  • Sophomore Ayden McFarland is second on the team with four goals, two of which were game-winners, including the difference-maker in the Huskies’ 2-1 win over Slippery Rock.
  • Sophomore Bella Culp leads the team with three assists and has one goal for five points this season. Junior Emily Swineford has two assiasts as well for Bloomsburg.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Kate Strickland leads the Marauders with 17 goals this season and has four assists for 38 points. Strickland tops the PSAC in goals, game-winners (6), and second in total points. Bri Harsh is second on the team with 16 points behind five goals and a team-best six assists. 17 players have registered at least one point for Millersville, while 15 have at least one goal.
  • Kerstin Koons has a 0.98 goals against average, and a 0.757 save percentage this season for the Marauders. She had three solo shutouts and one combined clean sheet so far.
  • Millersville is fifth in the league in scoring (51 goals) and third in goals against average (0.984).

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Huskies hold a 45-20-4 all-time series lead, though Millersville has won 13 of the last 15 contests between the two teams. Millersville snapped a 30-game winning streak for the Huskies in 2012.
  • The two teams have played eight overtime games since 2010, and 10 of the last 13 games have been decided by one goal. 
  • Millersville survived an upset-minded Huskies in the regular season match-up between the two teams. The Marauders jumped to a 2-0 lead before the Huskies cut the advantage back to 2-1. Millersville pushed the lead back to 3-1, but McFarland cut the lead to 3-2 with just under 13 minutes to play. The Marauders found the back of the cage with 12 minutes to play to hold off the Huskies.
