BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg wrestling team got two major decision wins, but the Huskies fell to Clarion, 33-8, Monday evening. The Huskies dropped to 0-6 on the year and 0-2 in Mid-American Conference (MAC) action, while Clarion improved to 1-1 and 1-0 in the MAC.
Â
The Huskies trailed 17-0 going into the 285-pound match, and redshirt junior
Shane Noonan (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) stepped to the mat and defeated Austin Chapman 11-1. Noonan got on the board with a takedown in the first period. He finished the period on top and chose the defense to start the second period. Noonan quickly got an escape and another takedown to push his lead to 5-0. After an injury time out for Chapman, he was then on the bottom before getting an escape as the period came to a close to take a 6-0 lead. Noonan got a pair of takedowns sandwiched around an escape for Chapman to push his lead to 10-1 and earned the riding time point for the 11-1 win.
Â
The Golden Eagles earned a hard-fought 6-2 decision at 125 pounds to extend their lead to 20-4 before the Huskies got their second major decision of the night at 133 pounds. Senior
Cole Rhone (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) defeated Koen Kish 9-1 to cut the Clarion lead to 20-8 in the match. Like Noonan, Rhone opened his match with a takedown and started to build his riding time. He deferred the choice to start the second period, and Kish chose neutral, with led to Rhone taking a 4-0 lead with another takedown. Rhone chose to start the third period on the bottom and quickly got the reversal to take a 6-0 lead. Kish got on the board with an escape before Rhone closed the match with another takedown and the riding time point for the 9-1 win.
Â
Redshirt senior
Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) and Seth Koleno battled in the tightest match of the day as they battled through the first two periods without a point. Late in the third period, Koleno got his takedown for the 2-0 lead with five seconds left in the match, and Mason escaped to cut the lead to 2-1, but it was as time expired as Koleno held on for the 2-1 win.
Â
The Huskies return to the mat on December 22 as they travel to the Wilkes Open before heading to the Midlands Championships on December 29 - 30.
