BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University wrestling team got a pair of bonus-point wins from redshirt junior
Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) and senior
Alex Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown), but the Huskies fell to visiting Kent State University, 35-16, Friday night.
Â
Junior
Cole Rhone (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) earned a forfeit win at 133 pounds to get the Huskies on the board and give Bloomsburg a 6-4 match lead. Mason followed with an exciting pin of Louis Newell just 1:53 into the match at 141 pounds. Just over 30 seconds into the game, Mason got a takedown to gain control of the bout. He maintained control and worked toward the end of the circle. Mason got Newell on his back for the pin with 1:07 left in the first period. It was his 12
th pin of the season and 10
th against DI opponents. All his pins this season have come in the first period except for one, and today's pin was his sixth-fastest of the season.
Â
The Golden Flash got a decision back at the 149-pound match to cut the Huskies' lead to 12-7. Carida pushed Bloomsburg to 16-7 with a dominant performance at 157-pounds. He quickly got a takedown before a two-point near fall gave the senior a 4-0 lead in the first. After a reversal by Robert Pryhocki cut the lead to 4-2 at the end of the first, Carida earned an escape point in the second to take a 5-2 lead. Another takedown for Carida extended his lead to 7-2, and a four-count near fall pushed the lead to 11-2. Pryhocki chose neutral to start the third, but Carida's third takedown and riding time sealed a 14-2 major decision.

The Golden Flash swept the final five matches to earn the team win, 25-16.
