Beierschmitt Breaks ESU Pool Record, Women's Swim Team Beats Warriors 153-92

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Behind a strong performance that saw the senior swimmer Grace Beierschmitt (Dover, Pa./Dover) break a pool record and the Huskies win 11 of the 15 events, the Bloomsburg women's swim team beat East Stroudsburg in a dual meet by a final tally of 153-92 at the Koehler Fieldhouse Pool in East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
 
Beierschmitt broke ESU's pool record in the 50-yard backstroke as the first leg in Bloomsburg's 200-yard medley relay team. The senior's record-setting mark of 27.28 helped the quadrant of swimmers finish second overall with a time of 1:53.53.
 
Another Husky relay team that consisted of Justine Drake (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg), Katie Eisenhofer (Reading, PA/Schuylkill Valley), Sydney Lloyd (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick) and Maggie Shaffer (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) placed first overall with a mark of 1:53.51, which was just .02 seconds ahead of Beierschmitt's team. Taleah Ruben (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville), Katie Sharkey (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and Courtney Hubric (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) teamed up with Beierschmitt on the second-place relay team.
 
After the 200-yard medley relay, ESU won the next two events, but the rest of the meet belonged to Bloomsburg as the squad won 10 of the final 12 events.
 
The next first-place finisher for the Huskies was Gabi Walsh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), who won the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:01.30. In the same event, Eisenhofer placed second with a time of 1:04.50 and Rylee Wenzel (West Lawn, PA/Wilson High School) picked up two points by placing fourth (1:05.86).
 
Julia Riegel (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) won the 100-yard breaststroke in a tight event that saw four swimmers place within two and a half seconds from one another. Riegel placed first with her time of 1:11.38, which was nearly a second faster than ESU's Mia Estep, who finished second with her time of 1:12.01. Bloomsburg grabbed the next two spots as Ruben finished third (1:12.46) and Shaffer finished fourth (1:13.47).
 
Beierschmitt continued her big day in the 50-yard freestyle, picking up a win with a time of 25.27. Ali Lehman placed third (26.53) in the same event, and Dani Noss (Mifflinville, Pa/Central Columbia) finished fifth (28.90).
 
In the 200-yard backstroke, Maddie Osanitsch won the event with a time of 2:13.11 and Anna Sugra (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) placed third (2:30.28) to pick up three points for Bloomsburg.
 
Eisenofer won the 10th event of the dual by finishing first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.94.
 
The 500-yard free saw another Bloomsburg first-place finisher as Tara Kupsky (Bear Creek Township, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) won the event with a time of 5:34.10. Kupsky's fastest split during the race was 30.80.
 
Wenzel won the 100-yard butterfly to pick up nine points for the Huskies, finishing first with a time of 1:00.36. Katie Sharkey (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) was third (1:02.86) in the same event and Leheman finished fourth (1:04.45).
 
Riegel and Kupsky finished first and second overall in the 200-yard IM. Riegel won the event with a time of 2:19.87 and Kupsky posted a mark of 2:23.38 to place second.
 
A pair of Bloomsburg relay teams placed first and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Beierschmitt, Shaffer, Eisenhofer and Hubric teamed up to post a time of 1:41.80 and finish first overall in the event. Wenzel, Reigel, Lehman and Lloyd finished second with a time of 1:43.08.
 
In the final event of the day, Osanitsch won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.51. Osanitsch's fastest split was 29.21 and the junior did not have a split slower than 33.28.
 
The women's swim team will get back into the pool on Feb. 4, which is when the team will partake in its annual Senior Celebration at the Nelson Field House. The event, which will solely consist of Bloomsburg men's women's swim teams, is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
