BLOOMSBURG, Pa.:Â Before the match against Edinboro, the Bloomsburg wrestling team honored its six graduating seniors, and three of the four wins came from those who were facing their final match at Nelson Field House. The Huskies fell to Edinboro, 23-18, in their regular Mid-American Conference (MAC) season finale.
Â
Tanner Culver (Hartland, Mich./Hartland), Tal-Reese Flemming (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), Bronson Garber (Millersburg, Pa./Upper Dauphin), Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain), Shane Noonan (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area), and Bruno Stolfi (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) were honored with their families before the start for their commitment to the Bloomsburg wrestling program over the last four years.
Â
Garber opened the match with an exciting 10-2 major decision over Eamonn Jimenez at 125 pounds. After Garber got his takedown to end the first period, he chose bottom to start the second and quickly got an escape and another takedown to start building riding time. Garber let Jimenez escape to start the third for his first point, but Garber sandwiched a pair of takedowns around another escape for the 7-2 lead. Garber finished the match with a takedown and got the riding time point for the major decision.
Â
Senior Cole Rhone (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) picked up his second tech fall of the season after dominating the 133-pound match from the opening whistle with a 15-0 win at 7:00. Rhone got an early takedown and four-count near fall to take a 6-0 lead after the first period. Cameron Soda chose neutral to start the second, and Rhone got another takedown and four-count near fall to build a 12-0 lead. The Benton, Pa. native chose bottom for the third and got his reversal for two more points, and his riding time gave him the 15-0 win.
Â
Stolfi snapped a five-bout winning streak for the Fighting Scots as he picked up a 4-0 decision over Jack Kilner at 184-pounds in his final match at Nelson Field House. Stolfi and Kilner battled through a scoreless first period before Kilner chose the bottom to start the second. Stolfi got Kilner nearly on his back and picked up a four-count near fall to take a 4-0 lead. Stolfi chose bottom for the third, and Kilner rode out the 2:00 period and erased riding time, but Stolfi held on for the 4-0 win.
Â
Noonan capped the evening with his 10th pin of the season at 285 pounds. Noonan joined elite company at Bloomsburg as he put together the 20th 10+ pin season in Husky wrestling history. Fellow senior, Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain), has two of the 10+ pin seasons for Bloomsburg. Noonan got an early takedown over Nicholas Lodato to take a 2-0 lead. Lodato escaped, but Noonan picked up another takedown for the 4-1 lead after the first period. Noonan chose bottom to start the second and got an escape for the 5-1 lead, but that was a moot point as Noonan put Lodato on the mat just 45 seconds into the period for the fall at 3:45.
