BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Three men's basketball players were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District teams as
Jake Nelson (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin),
Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and
Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) all earned the accolade on Tuesday.
In addition to their excellence in the classroom, all three players have also been contributing on the court for the Huskies. Nelson has started 23 games this year and is the team's second-leading scorer (12.5 PPG) in addition to being the team's leading rebounder (8.4 RPG). The forward is coming off a 22-point game against Shippensburg on Saturday, and that marked the third time this season he has scored over 20 points.
Bengel leads the team in field goal percentage (48.4%) and steals (27) this season, and the sophomore guard averages 9.1 points per game to go along with 3.3 rebounds. Additionally, Bengel has two 25-point games this season to go along with a 24-point game against Seton Hill last month.
Harris has appeared in all 24 games for Bloomsburg this season and is tied for fourth on the team in total three-point field goals made (16) while providing the Huskies with depth at the guard position. From the floor, Harris is 24-for-66 (36%) for the year to go along with a total of 11 steals, 13 assists and 26 rebounds.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be a starter or significant reserve – playing in at least 50% of the team's contests.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid March.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
