SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa – The Bloomsburg men's and women's track and field teams began their three-day event at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships with several athletes competing in the men's decathlon, women's heptathlon and men's and women's 10,000m run Thursday at Slippery Rock University.
The opening day was capped off by a pair of top-five finishes in the men's and women's 10,000m run. On the women's side,
Amanda Kelly (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) finished fifth overall (38:19.46) and
Ryan Duff (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) placed sixth overall in the men's 10k with his mark of 32:09.58.
Kelly and Duff both set new personal records with their times at the event. Kelly shaved 1:14.60 off her previous career best while Duff topped his previous PR by nearly half a second.
In the men's decathlon,
Doug Walsh (Old Forge, Pa./Holy Cross High School) and
Andrew Kane () represented the Huskies and
Bailey Corrigan (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra High School) competed in the women's heptathlon.
For Walsh and Kane, the two athletes combined for five top-five finishes during the events that took place Thursday.
Both athletes posted top-five finishes in the long jump as Walsh placed third (6.31m) and Kane finished fifth (6.29m). Walsh also finished fifth in the 100m dash (11.36), fourth in the shot put (10.49m), and fourth in the 400m (50.99). Walsh's time of 50.99 set a new PR in the event and was 1.29 seconds faster than his previous best.
Walsh sits in fourth place of the decathlon with 3358 points. Kane is in 13
th place with 2811 points.
In the heptathlon, Corrigan ranks 16
th and set new PR's in the 100m hurdles (17.90), shot put (8.69m) and 200m (28.73).
The men's team is in seventh place after receiving three points from Duff's sixth-place finish. The women's team will enter the second day of the event in fifth place with four points from Kelly's fifth-place finish.
The PSAC Championships are scheduled to begin on Friday with the decathlon at 10:00 AM. Field events will begin at 12:00 PM and track events are scheduled to start at 1:05 PM.
