CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Bloomsburg wrestling team competed at the 2024 Southern Scuffle, presented by Compound Sportswear, and hosted by The University of Tennessee Chattanooga. The Huskies finished with four team points and took 21
st overall.
Macon Myers (York, Pa./Central York) had a strong showing at 165-pounds and finished the two-day tournament 2-2. Myers opened the day on Monday with an 8-1 decision over Andrew Wilson of Gardner-Webb. After dropping a 12-7 decision to Joey Bianchi of Little Rock, Myers moved to the consolation bracket. He continued in the tournament with a 13-7 win over Nico Lozano of Little Rock. Myers tournament came to an end with a 17-2 tech fall to Drake Acklin from Appalachian State.
Cade Balestrini (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) went 2-2 on Monday as well. Balestrini opened the tournament with a 5-4 decision over Dom Findora from Drexel. Tyler McKnight from Davidson handed Balestrini a 6-4 decision to move to the consolation bracket. Balestrini out-lasted Kyle Schickel of Clarion 15-13 to continue in the 149-pound bracket. Balestrini finished the tournament with a fall at 4:21 by Aiden Davis of Bucknell.
Graduate student
Bronson Garber (Millersburg, Pa./Upper Dauphin) picked up the first win of the tournament for the Huskies with an 8-3 decision over Drew West of Gardner-Webb in the first round of the 125-pound bracket. Garber fell at 1:25 to Chad Bellis of Appalachian State in the second round and finished the tournament with a 6-4 loss to Reid Nelson of Little Rock in the first bout of the consolation round.
The Huskies return to dual match action on Friday, January 12 when they travel to Clarion for a 7:00 p.m. MAC contest in Clarion, Pa.
