BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg wrestling team fell to non-conference opponent LIU 35-7, Thursday night. Sophomore
Major Lewis (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) and freshman
Leo Hess III (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield) picked up wins for the Huskies.
Lewis got the Huskies on the board at 133 pounds. After a scoreless first and second period, Lewis elected the bottom in the third period. He got an escape as the third period was winding down for the 1-0 lead and eventual win. It was Lewis' first win as a Husky.
Hess earned a bonus point win for Bloomsburg as he controlled the 165 pound match from the beginning. Hess got an early takedown in the first period but James Johnston got the escape to cut the lead to 3-1. Johnston chose bottom to start the second and got another escape to cut the lead to 3-2. Hess quickly scored a takedown and a three-count near fall to push his lead to 9-2 but Johnston immediately got a reversal to cut the lead to 9-4. Hess didn't last long under Johnston's control as he ended the period with an escape for the 10-4 lead. The freshman chose bottom to start the third and another escape gave him an 11-4 lead. Another takedown and four back points for the 18-4 lead. Johnston avoided an tech fall with a last second escape but Hess built 1:47 of riding time for the 19-4 win. The major decision was the second of the season for Hess.
