KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's swimming team turned in an impressive performance Saturday afternoon at Kutztown University, collecting several event victories and PSAC-qualifying times in a tri-meet with Kutztown and Edinboro.
The Huskies opened strong with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as Maddie Fletcher (Wrightstown, N.J./Northern Burlington County), Vanesa Valli (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk), Ashley Martin (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush), and Samantha Linsey (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) combined for a season-best 1:50.73, just behind Edinboro's winning mark. Grace McBlain (Aldan, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) led a strong showing in the 100-yard butterfly, taking first in 1:00.40, narrowly edging teammate Martin (1:00.61) as both hit PSAC-qualifying marks.
Senior Rachel Cunningham (Hanover, Pa./South Western) continued her steady senior campaign with top finishes in multiple events, including second place in the 200 freestyle (1:58.47, PSAC) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.26). Morgan Keefer (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern York) (1:59.92, PSAC) and Sidney Beers (DeBois, Pa./DuBois Area) (2:01.98, PSAC) followed closely behind in the 200 free, giving Bloomsburg three of the top six times. Keefer later returned to win the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.42, narrowly out-touching teammate Valli (1:07.54), as the Huskies swept the top two positions.
Morgan Holmes (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) once again anchored Bloomsburg's sprint group, taking second in the 50 free (24.67, PSAC) and winning the 100 free in 53.81, pacing a 1-4-6 finish that included Sarah Pickel (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) (55.44, PSAC) and Olivia Igou (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) (56.90).
The Huskies capped the meet with a thrilling finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as Igou, Pickel, Beers, and Cunningham clocked 1:39.11, just three-hundredths of a second behind Edinboro's winning team.
Bloomsburg posted more than a dozen PSAC marks in the meet, showing balanced depth across all events under head coach Bridget Hilferty.
The Huskies will return to the pool in two weeks when they travel to Clarion for a PSAC meet on Friday, November 14.Â
