BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bloomsburg wrestling battled through a series of tightly contested bouts but ultimately fell to Binghamton, 24-13, in a competitive dual that featured five one-score decisions and multiple matches decided late in regulation.
The Huskies opened the night with momentum at 125 pounds, where
Jace Schafer (Fairport, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) controlled the pace throughout his bout against Carson Wagner. Schafer dictated position and riding time to secure a 9-0 major decision, giving Bloomsburg an early advantage and setting the tone for a hard-fought dual.
Binghamton responded in the middle of the lineup with a string of narrow victories, beginning at 133 pounds.
Aiden Grogg (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) and Dillon Arrick traded takedowns in a back-and-forth battle that remained within reach until the final period, where Arrick edged out a 5-3 decision. At 141,
Richie Woods (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) stayed locked in a tight contest with Ryan Hartung, forcing several exchanges late in regulation before Hartung pulled away with a 10-7 decision.
Another close bout followed at 149, as
Dustin Elliott (Delmar, Del./Sussex Tech) kept the match within one score against Caleb Sweet. Elliott continued to press offensively into the third period, but Sweet capitalized on late scoring opportunities to claim a 7-4 decision. The narrow margins continued at 157, where
William Morrow (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) matched Fin Nadeau through the opening minutes before Nadeau secured a late takedown and held on for a 4-1 decision.
Bloomsburg regained momentum at 165 pounds behind a strong effort from
Braidon Woodward (Canisto-Greenwood, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon). Locked in a physical contest with Marco Albanese, Woodward delivered timely offense and defensive stands in the closing moments to earn a 6-4 decision, cutting into Binghamton's team lead.
The Huskies continued to battle through the upper weights, including another closely contested bout at 197 pounds.
Coy Raines (North Chille, N.Y./Churchville-Chille) and Mikey Squires remained scoreless deep into the match before Squires broke through late to secure a 4-0 decision in a bout that remained undecided until the final period.
Bloomsburg closed the night on a high note at heavyweight, where
Mason Rebuck (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) delivered a decisive finish. Rebuck controlled the opening exchanges against Cayden Bevis before earning the fall at 4:57, providing the Huskies with six team points to cap the dual.
Despite the setback on the scoreboard, the dual featured sustained competitiveness throughout the lineup, with Bloomsburg wrestlers pushing multiple bouts into the final minutes and keeping the team score within striking distance until the closing matches.
