FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Huskies won the final three matches of the day as Bloomsburg wrestling defeated Sacred Heart, 23-17, Saturday for the first win under head coach
John Stutzman in his return to Bloomsburg. The Huskies picked up three bonus point wins on the afternoon.
After forfeiting the first match at 133, Bloomsburg got on the board with a tech fall by newcomer,
Kade Kluce (Dundee, Mich./Dundee). Kluce got a takedown and three-point near fall in the first period to take a 6-0 lead before choosing neutral to start the second. After another takedown and a four-count near fall gave the Husky a 13-0 lead in the second period. Kluce sealed the win and tech fall with another two-count near fall for the 15-0 win at 141 pounds at 4:31.

Sacred Heart won back-to-back matches at 149 and 157 to extend its lead to 13-5 before the Huskies started their comeback.
Luke Thomas (Whitehall, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) earned a hard-fought 10-1 major decision over Vincent Milazzo at 165 pounds. Thomas got a takedown in the opening period before Milazzo had an escape to cut the lead to 3-1. Milazzo deferred his choice to start the second period and Thomas took the bottom. He earned a two-point reversal to push his lead to 5-1 after two full periods. Milazzo chose bottom to start the third and Thomas got a four-point near fall to push his lead to 9-1. Thomas earned the riding time point for the 10-1 major decision.

Nicholas Foster (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) battled Callum Price at 174 pounds and earned his first win as a Husky. Foster needed just one period for the tech fall as he got a pair of quick takedowns sandwiched around an escape for a 6-1 lead. After his second takedown, Foster earned four back points for the 10-1 lead. The freshman let his opponent get an escape to make the score 10-2 before another takedown and four more back points at the end of the first period gave Foster a 17-2 win in 3:00 of actions and a tech fall. Foster's tech fall tied the match at 14-14.

The Pioneers won at 184 Â to take a 17-14 match lead.
Mason Rebuck (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) kicked off three-straight match wins for the Huskies as he defeated Chris DeLena 8-4 at 197 pounds. DeLena struck first with a take down but Rebuck got his escape to the cut the lead to 3-1 after the first. Rebuck tied the match at 3-3 with an escape and another point in the second period. DeLena chose neutral to start the third but Rebuck got a take down and scored a point to take a 9-3 lead before DeLena earned an escape. The riding time point went to Rebuck for the 10-4 win.

After a quiet first period at the 285 bout,
Tyler McCatharn (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) scored with an escape in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Marc Berisha chose bottom to start the third and tied the match at 1-1 with an escape of his own to send the bout into overtime. McCatharn won it for the Huskies with a quick take down in the first overtime period for the 4-1 sudden victory win and the 20-17 team lead in the match.

Major Lewis (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) secured the win for the Huskies with a 5-3 decision over Anthony Samuels at 125 pounds to end the match. Samuels earned a quick takedown in the first period but Lewis got his escape to cut the lead to 3-1. Samuels chose top to start the second and Lewis cut the lead to 3-2 with another escape. Samuels picked neutral to start the third and Lewis scored his match-winning takedown shortly after to take a 5-3 lead. The sophomore rode out the time for the win.

The Huskies return to action next Saturday when they welcome Rider for a 2:00 p.m. dual at Nelson Field House.

John Stutzman has announced the Bloomsburg wrestling Alumni Day at the Nelson Field House for Saturday, February 8, when the Huskies square off against Rider University. Action gets underway at 2:00 pm.
Join Bloomsburg Wrestling at Nelson Field House for Wrestling Alumni Night and watch the Huskies take on Rider University. After the 5th match we will take a break to honor all Huskies Wrestling alumni in attendance. Each pre-registered alumni and their guest will receive complimentary admission to the match that afternoon. There will also be a social at the Wagon Shed following the match sponsored by the Husky Elite Wrestling Club.
