BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's swimming team delivered a commanding performance Friday night in a tri-meet against Dickinson and Indiana (Pa.), defeating IUP 119–84 and Dickinson 134–69 behind multiple event wins and depth across the lineup.
The Huskies opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as
Grace McBlain (Aldan, Pa./Monsignor Bonner),
Vanesa Valli (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk),
Ashley Martin (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush), and
Morgan Holmes (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) combined for a winning time of 1:51.09. Bloomsburg also added points with fourth- and fifth-place finishes from its "B" and "C" relay teams.
Samantha Linsey (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) captured the 200-yard freestyle title in 1:57.35, while
Ella Dittmar (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) placed fourth and
Saryn McCullough (Newark, De./Newark Charter) added another scoring swim. Bloomsburg continued to build its lead in the 200-yard individual medley, sweeping the top two spots as McBlain won in 2:15.16 and Valli finished second at 2:16.12.
Morgan Keefer (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern York) and
Sadie Ludwick (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) also contributed valuable points.
Rachel Cunningham (Hanover, Pa./South Western) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.48, while Holmes and
Olivia Igou (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) followed closely behind to give Bloomsburg three of the top five finishers. Martin paced the Huskies in the 50-yard butterfly with a third-place finish, joined by additional scoring swims from
Jordyn Kinnee (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and
Taleah Ruben (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville).
Linsey added a second individual victory by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 54.10.
Sarah Pickel (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) finished third and
Maddie Fletcher (Wrightstown, N.J./Northern Burlington County) placed fourth to round out a strong event for Bloomsburg. In the 500-yard freestyle, Martin led the Huskies with a fifth-place finish, followed by Dittmar and
Kaia Griffith (Pottstown, Pa./Spring-Ford).
McBlain took home the gold in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.77. Pickel and Fletcher also scored, taking fifth and sixth respectively. Next, in the 50-yard breaststroke, Keefer won in this contest with a final time of 31.88. Ludwick placed third while
Avery Wenzel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) placed sixth.
Bloomsburg closed the meet by sweeping the freestyle relays. Linsey, Sid Beers, Cunningham, and Holmes won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.26, while the Huskies added a third-place finish from their "B" squad. Bloomsburg capped the night with a strong showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay to secure both team victories.
The Huskies will face IUP again in their Last Chance Meet and the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invite on Jan. 17.
