EDINBORO, Pa. – The Bloomsburg wrestling team split a pair of duals Thursday night at Edinboro. The Huskies shut out Mercyhurst 54-0 before dropping a MAC dual to Edinboro, 28-10.
The Huskies used nine bonus point wins to take down the Lakers in the opening match of the night for Bloomsburg.
Jace Schafer (Fairport, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) got a forfeit win at 125 pounds before
Austin Pollard (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) worked hard for his first win and pin in a Bloomsburg singlet at 133 pounds. After a scoreless first period and choosing bottom to start the second, Pollard got a quick reversal and four-count near fall to take a 6-0 lead. Pollard kept working Edwin Mooney and eventually got his back on the mat at 4:38 to give Bloomsburg a 12-0 match lead.
Â
Gaving Mundy followed up with the first of three-straight tech falls for the Huskies to push the match out of reach. Mundy and Marcus Colson traded take downs in the first period before Mundy pulled away in the second. He chose bottom to start and quickly got an escape. After his first take down, Mundy let Colson back out before getting another take down and allowing an escape. Mundy put the final touches on his tech fall win with a takedown and two four-count near falls, the last one coming as time expired in the second period for the 22-4 win at the 5:00 mark.
Â
Cael Raines (North Chille, N.Y./Churchville-Chille) got a decisive win at 149 pounds with a tech fall of his own as he built a 12-3 lead after the first period. As his teammates did before him, Raines chose bottom to start the second and got his escape for the 13-3 lead. After another takedown to make it 16-3, Raines let Colin Scherer escape before getting his tech fall sealing take down just 34 seconds into the second period for the 19-4 win at 3:34.
Â
William Morrow (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) posted the third-straight tech fall win for the Huskies with a 20-3 victory at 157 pounds. Morrow built a 9-2 lead over Chis Cibrone in the first period before pushing his lead to 13-3 after the second. Cibrone chose neutral to start the third and Morrow went in for the takedown to take a 16-3 lead and got a four-count near fall with 49 seconds left in the third to win 20-3 at 6:11.
Â
Vasillios Dimou (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) had one of the more competitive matches at 165 pounds but emerged victorious over Keith Mincin 9-4. Dimou took a 4-0 lead after the first period but Mincin got a takedown in the second to cut the lead to 4-3. Dimou was not down long and got his escape to push his lead to 5-3 after two periods. After choosing bottom, Dimou was issued two stall warnings which gave Mincin a point but got an escape to take a 6-4 lead. Dimou sealed the win with one more takedown to earn a 9-4 decision.
Â
Eric Alderfer (Harleysville, Pa./Faith Christian) wasted little time getting his fastest pin in a Husky singlet after a first period take down led to a pin at 1:24 over Brady Fitz at 174 pounds.
Â
Braidon Woodward (Canisto-Greenwood, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) benefited from a forfeit win as Bloomsburg took a 42-0 lead going into the night's final two bouts.
Â
Coy Raines (North Chille, N.Y./Churchville-Chille) was approaching a tech fall in the first period with a 21-6 lead but the last takedown led quickly into a four-count near fall that ultimately got Raines a pin win at 2:25 over Joshua Johnson at 197 pounds.
Â
Mason Rebuck (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) closed out the match with the quickest win of the night at 285 pounds over Gino Guerrisi. Rebuck sandwiched a pair of takedowns around an escape by Guerrisi before his final takedown brought his opponent to his back. Rebuck closed out the night with a pin at 1:00, his fastest as a Husky.
Â
The Huskies closed out the night against Edinboro and posted their 10
th bonus point win of the night. Pollard took control of the match early at 133 pounds and did not back down, defeating Landon Bainey 12-4 for his second bonus point win of the day.
Â
Alderfer snapped a four-bout losing streak for the Huskies with a gutsy 4-2 win over Tate Geiser at 174 pounds. Rebuck held one for a 4-3 win over Aden Roe at 285 pounds to close out the night.
The Huskies get back to action on Sunday when they welcome Bucknell to Nelson Field House for a 6:00 p.m. match. Prior to the start, the Huskies will honor their four graduating seniors,
