DANVILLE, Pa. – Charlie O'Connor (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) finished the opening round tied for eighth to lead the Bloomsburg men's golf team on the first day of the Husky Invitational at Frosty Valley Resort on Saturday.
O'Connor posted a 4-over round to sit four strokes behind co-leaders Hugo Almeida and Rogelio Gerena of Chestnut Hill. The duo each finished at even par as Chestnut Hill took control of the team standings.
The Huskies' A team completed the first round in sixth place at 30 over. O'Connor provided Bloomsburg's top score, while Connor Matteo (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and Wilson Abram (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) each finished at 8 over and tied for 22nd. Rylan Bravin (Frederick, Md./Urbana) carded a 10-over round to sit in a tie for 28th, and Nash Bostdorf (/) finished at 11 over and tied for 33rd.
Bloomsburg's B team followed in seventh place at 38 over. Patrick Bush (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) led the group with an 8-over performance and joined Matteo and Abram in a tie for 22nd. Bryson Hicklin (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) finished one stroke behind Bush at 9 over and tied for 26th.
Luke Bratetic (Chandler, Ariz./Perry) recorded a 10-over round to tie for 28th, while Phillip Matthews finished at 11 over and tied for 33rd. Tyler Wilkin rounded out the B team at 16 over.
Colin Riekofsky (Smethport, Pa./Smethport Junior/Senior) paced Bloomsburg's C team, shooting 7 over to finish the day tied for 19th. James Sias (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) followed at 10 over and tied for 28th, while Drake Brogan's (Ocean View, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) 11-over round placed him in a tie for 33rd. John Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Southwest Christian) finished at 14 over, and Jake Achenbach (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) completed the round at 20 over.
The C team concluded the opening day in eighth place at 42 over.
Competing as individuals, Will Geigerich posted a 12-over round to sit tied for 37th, while Aidan Scott (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) finished at 19 over.
Chestnut Hill leads the eight-team field at 5 over, holding an 11-stroke advantage over second-place Millersville. Scranton sits third at 18 over, while Shepherd and Clarion are tied for fourth at 27 over.
The Huskies return to Frosty Valley Resort on Sunday for the final round of the tournament.
