Bloomsburg Falls in Double-Overtime to East Stroudsburg

Britt scores 29 in 101-96 2OT loss to Warriors

BLOOMSBURG- Despite 29 points from senior guard Ruben Britt (Voorhees, NJ, Eastern Regional), Bloomsburg University lost a double-overtime thriller to East Stroudsburg University, 101-96, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East men's basketball action on Wednesday night at the Nelson Field House.

The Huskies (6-9, 0-3) led by as many as 15 points in the second half when the Warriors began their comeback, going on a 16-4 run to bring the Bloomsburg lead down to 73-70 with 3:34 remaining. The Huskies were able to go back on top by seven, but the Warriors outscored Bloomsburg 7-0 over the final 2:25 of regulation to send the game to overtime.

In the first overtime, East Stroudsburg took its first lead of the game with a Terrance King jumper 14 seconds in. A jumper by sophomore guard Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill) put the Huskies up by one and a foul shot by sophomore forward Larry Webster (Elkton, MD, Elkton) gave Bloomsburg an 86-84 lead with 47 seconds remaining. After a foul, Andy Heimbach stepped to the line and sunk both of his foul shots with 13 seconds left, tying the game at 86 apiece and sending it to a second overtime.

The Warriors took advantage of a Huskies team that was in foul trouble, outscoring Bloomsburg 15-10 to take the five-point win.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Warriors, led by Robby Pines who finished with 18 points. Britt led all scorers and went 9-of-12 from the field, also hitting 11-of-12 from the foul line. Three other Huskies reached double-figures, with Johnson scoring 17, Webster 16, and freshman guard Jamar Smack (State College, State College) chipping in with 11 points.

The Huskies are on the road next as they travel to Millersville on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
