DAY ONE RESULTS
GREENSBORO, NC—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team will have four wrestlers alive heading to day two of the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, NC. Moving on to day two action for the Huskies will be
Derek Shingara (Shamokin, Shamokin),
Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg, Cumberland Valley),
Jake Dabashinsky (Schuylkill Haven, Blue Mountain) and
Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls).
As a team the Huskies are tied for 15th out of 34 teams with 32 points.
Winning opening round matches for the Huskies were
Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY, Greene Central) at 133 pounds,
Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC, E.L. Laney) at 157 pounds and
Nate Graham (Selkirk, NY, Ravena) at 184 pounds. Wilcox scored a 3-0 decision over Tyler Smith of Kent State, while Hickman, seeded fourth, posted a decisive win by technical fall,19-1 in 6:32 over Ryan Harding of Duke. Graham, the seven seed, won his opening match by an 8-0 score over Hunter Collins of Michigan.
In second round action Graham posted a 9-1 win over Jacob Bachman of Lock Haven to move to the quarterfinals. Wilcox lost his match 6-4 to the fifth seed Kelly Kubec of Oregon State, while Hickman lost 4-3 to Craig Eifert of Cornell. In quarterfinal action Graham lost 8-7 to Casey Newburg of Kent State by an 8-7 score.
In the consolation round both Wilcox, Hickman and Graham all failed to move on after suffering losses. Wilcox lost to Erik Spjut of Virginia Tech, 5-4, while Hickman dropped his first match in the consolation round 6-4 to Aaron Hynes of Michigan. Graham saw his tournament come to an end with a 6-3 loss to Brock Mantella of Boston University in round four of the consolations.
Several Huskies dropped their opening round matches, but were advancing through the consolation bracket. Shingara at 141 pounds lost his opening match, then posted a 9-1 win over Gene Capezio of Indiana and Rocco Wellek of North Carolina 11-4 in the first two rounds of the consolation bracket. In the third round Shingara moved on after picking up a win by medical forfeit over Matthew Bonson of Lock Haven.
At 157 pounds Busler lost his opening match then scored a technical fall over Harding of Duke, 16-0 in 4:26 in the second round on consolations, then pinned Jake Fose of Campbell in 27 seconds in round three of consolations. In round four Busler advanced with a 9-1 win over Alex Medved of Gardner-Webb.
At 197 pounds Dabashinsky dropped his opening match then scored a second round consolation win by fall in 27 se4conds over Zac Bennett of North Carolina, then posted a 6-1 win over Paul Glover of Appalachian State. Dabashinsky moved on to day two action by ending his day with a pin over Aaron Thompson of Liberty in 2:48.
At 285 pounds Walsh lost his opening match then posted a 6-1 win over Andrew Wilson of Liberty in a third round consolation bout.
At 165 pounds
Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY, Greece Olympia) lost in his first match then posted an 11-3 win over Willy Mello of Duke in round one of consolations, then scored an 8-3 win over Clayton Gable of Air Force in round two of consolations. In round three Veltre won 6-3 over Dan Rivera of Old Dominion. In round four of consolations Veltre failed to advance losing 6-5 to Jeb Clark of Utah Valley University.

Chris Smith (Mineral, Va., Chancelor) dropped to the consolation round after an opening round loss then scored a 10-3 win over Justin Guthrie of Gardner-Webb in round one of consolations, then beat Ryan Konz of Indiana, 3-1, TB3 in the second round and Colin Genthart of North Carolina 7-2 in round three. Smith's tournament then came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Chris Moon of Virginia Tech in round four of consolations.

Boylan lost his first match the posted a 7-5 win over Justin Shields of North Carolina in the third round of consolations before losing 6-1 to Brad Pataky of Penn State in round four. At 149 pounds, Roosa lost in the opening round then posted a 7-2 win over David Ivashchenko of The Citadel in round one of consolations followed by a 7-1 win over Alex Warren of Indiana in round two. Roosa then took a medical forfeit in round three of consolations.
