SLIPPERY ROCK—The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to Slippery Rock on Saturday by a score of 75-58 in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) crossover game.
The Huskies started fast in the game jumping out to a quick 9-2 lead on back-to-back three-pointers from
Jesse Betar (Altoona, Altoona) and one by
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown, Norristown) in the first four minutes of the game. The Rock though answered with a 12-4 run and took a lead at 14-13 on a free throw from Brown.
The teams traded leads till Bloomsburg took control on a basket by
John Schwarz (Delta, Perry Hall) with 8:15 to go in the half and later pushed its edge to five points, 26-21, on two free throws from Christmas. Then, later in the half Christmas hit a long three pointer putting the Huskies up 33-30 with 2:42 to play in the half. The Rock though closed out the half with a 9-0 run to go into the locker room with a 39-33 lead.
In the second half The Rock pushed the lead to 10 points, 47-37, outscoring the Huskies 10-4 in the first four minutes of play. Bloomsburg came back and cut Slippery Rock's lead to five points, 51-46, following a three-point by
Antoine Ellison-Love (Williamsport, Loyalsock) with 11:49 to play and later made it a four-point game, 56-52, on two free throws from Betar.
However, The Rock scored nine straight points to make it a 12-point game with 5:48 to go. Bloomsburg did close to within nine points on jumper by Schwarz with 4:00 to play, but that would be as close as the Huskies would get. Slippery Rock used another 9-0 run to put the game away.
Bloomsburg, which goes to 4-7 with the loss, was led by Christmas with a career-high 15 points, while Schwarz added 10 points. Brown led Slippery Rock, now 9-4, with 24 points while Jabril Bailey added 13 points.
The Huskies play at Mercyhurst on Sunday at 3 p.m.
