SPOKANE, WA- The Bloomsburg University women's cross country team finished 14th at the NCAA Division II national championships in Spokane, Washington on Saturday. The 14th place finish was the highest finish ever for a Huskies cross country team at the NCAA championships.

Race conditions were tough on Saturday with a steady snow falling throughout the event.

Leading the Huskies once again was Vicki Davis (New Ringgold/Schuylkill Haven) who finished 45th overall, coming just short of qualifying for All-American honors that are awarded to the top 40 finisher. Davis ran the 6k course in 22:33. Junior Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) was the second runner for the Huskies finishing 99th in 22:38, while senior Katlyn McShay followed at 103rd with a time of 23:46. Martina Drew (Langhorne/Neshaminy) followed with a time of 23:52 and Kelsey Harm (Boothwyn/Cardinal O'Hara) followed close behind with a time of 24:01. Coming in sixth for Bloomsburg was freshman Lauren Lehman (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) with a time of 24:13, followed by Samantha Matthews (Windsor/Glenelg) at 24:47.

"The team performed superbly, despite the miserable conditions," said Huskies head coach Bernie Empie. "I am proud of how hard they have worked all season."

The previous best finish for the Huskies was 15th in 2007, while in 2009 Bloomsburg had a 17th place finish at the NCAA Championships.

In the team competition the Huskies finished behind nationally ranked teams Augustana, Western State, Grand Valley State, but did surprise two other ranked teams Pittsburg State and Tampa. Bloomsburg finished with 406 points, compared with 75 for National Champion Augustana.
