BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team (4-1, 2-0 PSAC) won their fourth straight, beating PSAC opponent Edinboro University (1-2, 1-1 PSAC), 77-68. The Huskies had five players in double figures including
John Schwarz (Delta/Perry Hall)'s 10 points and 10 rebounds from off the bench while senior point guard
Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) recorded a career high nine assists.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 9-3 lead behind
Ed Hall (Washington, DC/Paint Branch)'s five points and
Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton)'s III four. The Fighting Scots of Edinboro kept it close until taking their first lead of the game, 17-15 at the 10:28 mark of the first half.
From there the Huskies went on a 20-8 run to take a 35-25 lead with 6:06 remaining in the half. During the 4:22 stretch, six different Bloomsburg players scored baskets and the Huskies shot a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line. Both teams would play even for the remainder of the first half, bringing the halftime score to 44-34 in favor of the Huskies.
BU's bench came up big in the first half, contributing 18 points with
John Schwarz (Delta/Perry Hall) scoring eight points and nine rebounds while
Mike Varanavage (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) added another seven points.
Ed Hall (Washington, DC/Paint Branch) had a good first half as well, hitting 3-of-4 shots and two free throws for eight first half points.
In the second half Bloomsburg gained their largest lead of the game, 12 points, at the 19:16 mark. The Fighting Scots played catch-up for most of the second half and at the 5:11 mark pulled to within three points of the Huskies, 67-64.
The final five minutes would be all Bloomsburg as BU outscored Edinboro 10-4, scoring eight of their 10 points in the paint for a 77-68 win. Bloomsburg's
Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) and
Ed Hall (Washington, DC/Paint Branch) were huge for the Huskies in the second half, combining for 17 points and 11 boards.
Both Jordan and Hall finished with 15 points and nine rebounds a piece. Webster totaled 11 points and five boards while Schwarz ended with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) also had a good game, scoring nine points and dishing out a career high nine assists. For Edinboro, Bryan Theriot led all scorers with 19 points.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Monday, November 28 as they host PSU-Hazleton in a 7:30 p.m. game at the Nelson Field House in Bloomsburg, PA.
