Men's Basketball Upsets No. 8 IUP, 66-64

Box Score BOX SCORE

INDIANA, PA—Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) dished out a career high 10 assists, his final assist coming on a Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) three-pointer that propelled Bloomsburg University (6-1, 3-0 PSAC) past number eight ranked Indiana (Pa.) 66-64.   Today's win was Bloomsburg's first win over the Crimson Hawks (4-1, 2-1 PSAC) since 2006-07 season.

The first 10 minutes of the game was very close with both teams trading buckets, resulting in six lead changes.  IUP would pull away, going up by as many with 10 points with 4:29 to play in the first half.

Bloomsburg shut the Crimson Hawks down for the remainder of the first half as BU went on a 13-1 run to claim a 32-30 lead entering halftime.  BU's Nnamdi Njoku (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) nailed a three pointer with six seconds left to give the Huskies their first lead since the 12:30 mark.

In the second half, Bloomsburg stretched their lead to six but the Crimson Hawks rallied to take a one point lead with 12:58 to play.  IUP would hold the lead until the 8:36 mark of the second half when the Huskies took a 50-49 lead.

BU would go up 56-50 with 6:03 to play, but IUP would again make a late push to make things interesting.  Slowly chipping away at the lead, the Crimson Hawks finally broke through to take a 64-63 lead with 28 seconds to play.

After a Bloomsburg timeout, the Huskies looked to put the ball in the hands of their best shooter, Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown).  Senior point guard Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) would find Christmas open at the three point line.  With seven seconds remaining in the game, Christmas drained a three to put BU on top, 66-64.

IUP's Devante Chance would take the last shot of the game but his three-point attempt came up short as Bloomsburg shocked the number eight ranked Crimson Hawks.

Nnamdi Njoku (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) led the Huskies with a 16 point effort from off the bench while Johnson recorded his first double-double of the season on 13 points and 10 assists.  Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) III finished with 10 points and two blocks while Ed Hall (Washington, DC/Paint Branch) scored nine and grabbed seven boards.

For IUP, Ashton Smith led all scorers with 24 while Josh Weigand added eight points and a game high 12 rebounds.

Bloomsburg will look to remain perfect in PSAC play as the Huskies take on California (Pa.) tomorrow, December 4 at 3:00 p.m.
