HAMPTON, Va.--The Bloomsburg University baseball team closed out this weekend's Builder Invitiational with a 9-5 victory over host Newport News Apprentice School to secure third place in this year's tournament.
The fifth inning was a big one for the Huskies, as Bloomsburg scored five runs and carried a 7-3 advantage in the sixth inning.
In the eighth,
Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) hit a two-run shot to seal the victory for the Maroon and Gold. Kramer finished 2 for 3 on the day.
Howie Deemer (Washington, N.J./Belvidere) also had a great offensive outing, hitting 3 for 5 and scoring two runs.
Scott Runzer (Newtown/Council Rock North) hit 3-4 and had two runs and a pair of RBI's.
Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) also went 3 for 4 and recorded 2 RBI.
Gino D'Amato (Hazleton/Hazleton) picked up the win after pitching 6 innings, recording 3 strikeouts and allowing 4 hits and 3 runs (3 earned).
Mike Rossetti (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) held on to the Bloomsburg win for the team's first save of the season.
The Huskies now improve to 3-2 on the year and will next compete at Shepherd to kick off the team's Spring Break roadtrip on March 5.
