Baseball Cruises Past Young Harris, 13-3

YOUNG HARRIS, GA.--The Bloomsburg University baseball team had no trouble surpassing Young Harris College on Sunday, as the Huskies posted seven runs in the ninth to come away with a 13-3 victory. With the win, Bloomsburg (7-5) polishes off a soggy spring break roadtrip that saw the Maroon and Gold come away with a 4-3 record over the week.

In Sunday's first inning, Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg) scored Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) on an RBI single to center, putting the Huskies on the scoreboard first. In the second, Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) scored Gino Wise (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg), giving Bloomsburg a quick 2-0 lead.

Young Harris responded with two runs in the second, knotting the score at 2-2.

In the third, the Huskies scored another pair of runs courtesy of a two-RBI double from Scott Runzer (Newtown/Council Rock North). Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) scored Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown, Indian Valley) in the fourth, and Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.

Leading 6-3, Bloomsburg broke the game open in the ninth, scoring seven runs to secure the 13-3 win. The inning was highlighted by a two-run shot by Vince Smarrelli (Mt. Airy, MD/Urbana) and another two-RBI hit by Kramer.

On the mound, Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) picked up his second win of the season after throwing 5 innings with 5 hits, 1 run, 4 strikeouts and a walk. Howie Deemer (Washington, N.J./Belvidere) received the save after pitching 2 runless innings.

The Huskies return to the Keystone State and will face Lincoln University in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 16, at 1 p.m.
