BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a doubleheader on Monday to West Chester by scores of 7-5 and 3-2.

In game one, the Huskies trailed 1-0 in the second inning when Scott Runzer (Newtown/Council Rock North) doubled and later scored on a fielding error by West Chester. The Golden Rams went on top 6-1 by scoring five times in the top of the third with the big blow being a three-run homer by Joe Wendle.

Bloomsburg chipped away at the lead by scoring single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) had a RBI single in the third, Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) an RBI double in the fourth with Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg) getting an RBI ground out in the fifth.

West Chester picked up a run in the top of the seventh to make it 7-4 before the Huskies made things interesting. Bloomsburg's Howie Deemer (Washington, N.J./Belvidere) singled and later scored on a two-out error by the center fielder. The Huskies then loaded the bases, but West Chester got the final out on a strikeout to end the game.

Deemer went 2-4 in the game to lead the offense for Bloomsburg.

In game two, the Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. He came around to score on a double by Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley). A fly out moved him to third and he scored when Lloyd reached on an error by the first baseman.

West Chester scored single runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings. In the seventh, Jack Provine walked with the bases loaded for the Golden Rams to force in the go-ahead run. Bloomsburg did get two runners on in the sixth with two outs, but could not score.

Bloomsburg falls to 9-11, 2-6 in the PSAC East with the loss. The Huskies host IUP on Friday in a twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
