BLOOMSBURG—
Kyle Hunter (Lehighton, Lehighton) threw a shut out during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, as the Bloomsburg University baseball team split with No. 12 Millersville University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action. Millersville recorded a 4-3 win in the day's first game before the Huskies responded with a 2-0 win in the second.
In game one, Millersville (21-7, 8-4 PSAC East) took a 2-0 lead after two innings. The Marauders added another pair of runs in the top of the fourth, putting them ahead 4-0.
The Huskies would keep it interesting in the seventh after adding three runs off a homer from
Keith Meyer (Richboro, Council Rock South).
Mike Rossetti (Phillipsburg, NJ, Phillipsburg) (2-4) finished with 4 runs (4 earned) and 3 strikeouts in the complete game on the mound. Mike McMonagle tossed 6.1 innings for the Marauders, yielding 3 runs (3 earned) while racking up 7 strikeouts. Closer Zach Eckley (0-0) received the save after 0.2 inning of work.
Meyer finished the game 2-for-4 from the plate with 1 run and 3 RBI.
Brad Smith (Morgantown, Twin Valley) was 2-for-4, while
Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg, Central Columbia) and
Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg, Mifflinburg)were the only other huskies who had a hit.
In the second game, Bloomsburg struck quickly, after Meyer was hit by a pitch, Ianiero singled to right field. Lloyd would have a sacrifice bunt to bring home a run, as the Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one.
WCU starter Tim Mayza gave up another run in the sixth when Lloyd homered to center to score, and the Huskies cruised to a 2-0 win over #12 Millersville.
Smith and Ianiero were both 1-for-2 on the game, while Meyer (0-for-1) tallied a run. Lloyd (1-for-2) finished the game with a run and 2 RBI.
Hunter (2-1) recorded the win and completed the game with 7 strikeouts, 2 walks and 0 runs.
For WCU, Mayza (3-3) picked up the loss with 8 strikeouts, 3 hits, and 2 runs (2 earned).
The Huskies will host Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 12 for a 3 pm start.
