BLOOMSBURG—After a 1-0 loss in game one, the Huskies recovered to secure a dominant 11-5 win in game two, as the Bloomsburg University baseball team split Friday's doubleheader against East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern division action.

Bloomsburg's record now moves to 13-15 overall (4-10 PSAC East) on the year, while Kutztown is now 21-8  (7-5 PSAC East).

In the first game, ESU ace Jeremy Gigliotta (5-1) held the Huskies to just two hits on the day. Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) led off the first inning with a single to right, and Vince Smarrelli (Mt. Airy, MD/Urbana) hit a single in the second inning. Both runners reached third before being stranded.

The game's lone run came in the fourth inning, when Ryan Guarino, Jake Griesemer, and Brian Ernst strung together three straight hits to take the 1-0 lead.

BU's only other batter to reach base was Paul Rosa IV (Wyomissing/Wilson), who drew the game's only walk in the sixth inning.

On the mound for the Huskies, Vinny Voorhees (New Hope/New Hope Solebury) (2-4) allowed just one run and eight hits while striking out four.

In the day's second game, Bloomsburg's Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) (4-2) started strong on the hill. In the top of the first, Cooperman needed just nine pitches to strikeout the Warriors' first three batters.

The Maroon and Gold struck first blood in the first inning, as Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) tripled to center before Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) followed with a double to put BU in front 1-0.

After East Stroudsburg responded with two runs in the top of the second, the Huskies answered back in the bottom of the inning. Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain), Smith, and Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg) notched hits, while Rosa, Kramer, Smith, and Meyer reached the plate to add four runs for a 5-2 advantage.

Kramer and Meyer recorded RBI's in the third to score Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) and Rosa, extending the lead to 7-2.

In the fourth inning, Lloyd hit his seventh home run in the season, bringing Ianiero home with himself, putting the Huskies up 9-2.

Smith reached on a walk in the fifth and scored on a subsequent wild pitch before he hit an RBI-single in the sixth to score Gino Wise (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg).

With the Huskies in front 11-2, East Stroudsburg made a final push in the seventh and picked up three runs before Cooperman was able to close out the game for the 11-5 victory.

Smith and Ianiero both finished 3-for-4 in game two, while Lloyd had four RBI, and Rosa scored a career-high with his pair of runs.

Cooperman finished with seven strikeouts, allowing one walk, eight hits, and five runs (two earned). For the Warriors, Andy Noga (5-2) was dealt the loss after dropping seven runs in three innings.

The Huskies next travel to East Stroudsburg to finish the series. Games are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m., but local weather forecasts indicate a likely postponement. Schedule updates will be posted on BUhuskies.com.
