EAST STROUDSBURG—After falling 10-6 in the first game, the Huskies responded to win the second game 3-1, as the Bloomsburg University baseball team split Monday's doubleheader against East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. With BU going 2-2 in the weekend's four-game series, Bloomsburg sits at 14-16 (5-11 PSAC East) on the year, while ESU moves to 22-8 (8-5 PSAC East).

In game one, Bloomsburg posted an impressive five-run inning in the third. Gino Wise (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) led off with a single before Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain), Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley), and Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) drew bases on balls. Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg) scored a run on a sacrifice-fly, and a ground-rule double from Vince Smarrelli (Mt. Airy, MD/Urbana) scored another. To cap off the scoring, Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) doubled to score two more runs, as the Huskies jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

The Warriors answered with one run in the third but did their real damage in the fifth. Despite only allowing one hit, Bloomsburg's defense yielded a pair of critical errors, allowing ESU to bring six runs across the plate to take a 7-5 advantage.

BU's Eversole walked to lead off the top of the sixth, and pinch-runner Howie Deemer (Washington, N.J./Belvidere) was able to get around to narrow the Bloomsburg deficit to 7-6.

East Stroudsburg put up three insurance runs in the bottom of the inning, securing the Warriors' 10-6 win in game one.

Mike Rossetti (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) (2-5) struck out four in four innings and was handed the loss after yielding six runs (four earned). ESU's Keenan Stare (3-1) gave up just one run in 4.1 innings to close the game for the Warriors.

In game two, ESU struck first when Evan Gallagher hit a single and worked his way around the bases for a 1-0 lead.

Bloomsburg was quiet on the scoreboard until the fifth inning.  Deemer and Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) scored a pair of runs on a double by Smith. Ianiero brought Smith around on a deep single, putting the Huskies in front 3-1.

East Stroudsburg was able to get runners on base in each of its final three at-bats, but none were able to reach the plate, as Bloomsburg held of the Warriors for the 3-1 victory and 2-2 series split.

In the end, BU's Kyle Hunter (Lehighton/Lehighton) (3-1) was the day's strongest pitcher, allowing just one run while striking out six in the seven-inning complete game. Ryan Beck (0-3) also struck out six but yielded three runs (0 earned) in the loss.

On the day, Eversole finished 3-for-5 in both games, batting in two runs off two doubles. Smarrelli also had multiple hits on the day, going 3-for-7 at the plate with one run and an RBI.

Tuesday's scheduled doubleheader against IUP has been cancelled. Instead, the Huskies take to the field again on Thursday, April 21, in a pair against Washington Adventist University at 1 p.m.
