Game Two Box Score

BLOOMSBURG—After winning a 13-3 rout in game one of Thursday's doubleheader, the Huskies were edged 8-6, as the Bloomsburg University baseball team split with Washington Adventist University in non-conference action. Bloomsburg is now 15-17 on the year, while WAU is 9-10.

Seth Pauling (Allenwood/Montgomery) and Michael DiVona opened the Huskies' scoring in the second inning of game one, as the pair led off the inning with hits and worked their way around the bases for two runs. Tim Kurucz (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) batted Pauling home on a sacrifice fly, while DiVona reached the plate on a wild pitch.

Bloomsburg lit up the scoreboard in the fourth inning, bringing 12 batters to the plate while scoring nine runs off six hits and four WAU errors. Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) highlighted the inning with a two-run double to right field, as the Huskies took an 11-1 lead.

BU rounded out its scoring with another pair of runs in the fifth. Paul Rosa IV (Wyomissing/Wilson) reached on a walk before Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) hit a triple down the right field line to drive in one. Ianiero made his way home two pitches later when Howie Deemer (Washington, N.J./Belvidere) singled through the left side, as the Huskies cruised to a 13-3 win.

Scott Runzer (Newtown/Council Rock North) (2-0) got the win on the mound after tossing five innings with five strikeouts and three runs (two earned). Matthew Dean (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) pitched two scoreless innings to close the game, tallying four strikeouts and two hits.

Neil Croft (3-3) was dealt the loss for the Shock after dropping 11 runs (two earned) in four innings on the mound.

In game two, Washington Adventist took a 4-1 lead after three innings. Bloomsburg's lone early run came from Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South), who doubled to lead off the game for the Huskies and was brought home on a single by Deemer.

BU added another run in the fourth when Aaron Russell (Montoursville/Montoursville) walked to reach base, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home on a Meyer single through the left side.

The Shock added two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.

In the sixth, Russell, Mazza, and Meyer recorded hits and Russell got a run to narrow the gap to 6-3. WAU responded with two more runs for a 8-3 advantage heading into the bottom of the final inning.

Despite hits from Ianiero and Meyer with runs by Ianiero, DiVona, and Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg), the Huskies' rally fell short, as Washington Adventist picked up the 8-6 victory.

Trevor Hendershott (1-2) threw over 120 pitches in 6.1 innings of work, striking out three with five runs (four earned) to get the win. Nick Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) (0-1) faced the loss after dropping six runs (four earned) in five innings.

On the day, Meyer hit 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Ianiero was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs. Deemer went 4-for-8 from the plate, logging three RBI and a run, while Mazza finished 3-for-7 including two RBI and a run.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday, April 22, as the team travels to face PSAC East opponent Mansfield University for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
