Game Two Box Score

KUTZTOWN—In the final doubleheader of their season, the Huskies held the Golden Bears scoreless in both games, as the Bloomsburg University baseball team swept Kutztown University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Saturday. Bloomsburg took the first game, 4-0, before winning the second, 5-0.

In game one, BU's Howie Deemer (Washington, N.J./Belvidere) was the first to score, reaching first on a single and coming home on a double by Vince Smarrelli (Mt. Airy, MD/Urbana) to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead after one inning.

Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) and Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) notched hits in the second inning, and Deemer hit into left field to score Smith for a 2-0 advantage.

Bloomsburg added another run in the fourth after hits by Smith and Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) set up a sacrifice-fly by Meyer.

In the fifth inning, Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) navigated the bases to add a fourth run for the Huskies.

Kyle Hunter (Lehighton/Lehighton) (4-1) only recorded one strikeout on the mound for the Huskies, but his pitching was nonetheless effective. Hunter yielded just three hits in his seven innings to earn his second complete-game shutout of the season, as the Huskies cruised to the 4-0 victory.

In the day's second game, the Huskies stole three runs to take a quick first-inning lead. Deemer and Ianiero picked up hits, and Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg) brought both home on a single through the left side. Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) added an RBI-double to left center for the 3-0 advantage. Kramer also singled in the inning giving BU a total of five hits in the inning.

In the next inning, Ianiero, Smarrelli and Lloyd strung together a trio of hits to add another run to the board.

Up 4-0, Bloomsburg added the day's final run in the fifth inning. Smarrelli walked and stole second to get in scoring position before Smith brought him around on a single.

Kutztown stranded 11 runners on base, including three in the final inning, but none of the Golden Bears managed to score as the Huskies came away with the 5-0 win in game two.

Mike Rossetti (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) (4-5) struck out five on the mound for the Huskies, and despite yielding nine hits and a pair of walks, he held the Golden Bears scoreless for his first shutout of his four-year career.

On the day, Smith and Kramer each went 4-for-6, while Deemer was 5-for-8 from the plate. Smith and Deemer each recorded two runs with one RBI. Ianiero had a team-high three runs, while Lloyd batted in three.
