BLOOMSBURG—Wrestling Report.com has ranked six Bloomsburg University wrestlers nationally in its preseason poll.
Earning national rankings for the 2011-12 season are
Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks),
Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central),
Derek Shingara (Shamokin/Shamokin),
Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney), Mike Dessio and
Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls).
Boylan, a sophomore, is ranked 30th by the Wrestling Report at 125 pounds. He posted a record of 20-13 last season and was named the PSAC Freshman of the Year. During the year he finished second at the PSAC Championships and third at the EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) championships.
Wilcox, a sophomore, is 24th at 133 in the preseason poll. As a freshman Wilcox was 19-16 for the Huskies and won the PSAC title at his weight class.
At 141 pounds Shingara is ranked 28th by the Wrestling Report. Last season Shingara was 20-18 for the Huskies and won a PSAC title.
Hickman, going into his junior year, is the highest ranked Bloomsburg wrestler in the preseason poll with a 19th place showing at 157 pounds. Hickman was 27-11 a year ago and finished second at the EWL championships. He earned a trip to the NCAA championships picking up one win in the tournament.
Dessino is ranked 21st at 174 pounds. Last season he won by the EWL and PSAC championships and earned a trip to the NCAA national championships. Dessino finished the year with a record of 25-10.
Walsh, a senior, is ranked 33rd at 285 pounds. He finished second at the EWL championships last season and posted a record of 19-12.
Bloomsburg will open its season its season on Nov. 6 at the Terrapin Open.
