BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team (12-3, 8-2 PSAC) grabbed a season high 44 rebounds en route to an 83-61 win over the Wolves of Cheyney University (2-10, 1-8 PSAC).
Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) led the Huskies with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals, all game and season highs.
As a team, Bloomsburg made good on 27-of-38 free throw attempts. BU's 27 makes and 38 attempts were both season highs. Bloomsburg and Cheyney shot a total of 69 free throws in today's whistle-filled game.
Domination in the paint was a key factor today as Bloomsburg outrebounded Cheyney 44-26. The Huskies also scored 40 of their 83 total points in the paint compared to Cheyney's eight. Also credit the Bloomsburg bench as they scored 32 points to Cheyney's two.
Bloomsburg doubled-up the Wolves in the first 5:16, going up 14-7 behind
Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport)'s five points. Cheyney trimmed the lead to five points with 10:35 remaining but the Huskies regrouped to take a 33-20 lead at the 4:08 mark.
The Huskies would go up by as many as 14 points in the first half and took a 40-27 lead going into halftime.
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) and Jordan each scored nine points to pace the Huskies in the first half. Jordan also grabbed six rebounds while the BU bench chipped in 16 points.
Looking to add to their lead, Bloomsburg opened the second half with a 9-2 run to take 20 point lead, 49-29. The BU run stretched just over three and half minutes as four different Huskies scored points.
From there, Cheyney would get as close as 16 points to the Huskies for the remainder of the half as Bloomsburg claimed an 83-61 win. BU's largest lead of the game came with 1:25 remaining when the Huskies went up by 23 points.
Four different Huskies finished with double-digit points with Jordan leading the group with a season high 26 points and 11 rebounds.
John Schwarz (Delta/Perry Hall) came off the bench to score a season high 13 points and grab seven rebounds.
Christmas and
Ed Hall (Washington, DC/Paint Branch) totaled 11 and 10 points respectively.
Jamar Smack (Philadelphia/State College) and
Nasir Jones (Philadelphia/Franklin Learning Center) provided quality minutes off the bench, totaling 13 points, four rebounds, and six assists.
Brandon Baylor led Cheyney with 19 points as he connected on 10-of-11 free throws while Jason Sabb added another 13 points. Donte Woody was one point and two rebounds shy of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Huskies have now won three in a row and four of their last five as they remain atop the PSAC East. Bloomsburg will put their 12-3 record on the line on Wednesday, January 18 as the Huskies host the Mountaineers of Mansfield University in PSAC East action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Field House in Bloomsburg, PA.
