Webster Helps Huskies to Road Win

EAST STROUDSBURG—Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team to a 70-67 win over East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night.
 
The Huskies improve to 14-4 on the year, 10-3 in the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference), while the Warriors fall to 11-8, 7-6 in the PSAC East.
 
The first half was a back and forth affair between the teams with five ties and three lead changes. The Huskies twice led by five points in the opening half. The first was on a dunk by Webster putting Bloomsburg on top 23-18 with the second coming on a jumper by Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) giving the Huskies a 25-20 lead. East Stroudsburg had an early 9-3 lead in the game for its biggest lead of the night and went to the locker room leading 31-28.
 
Early in the second half the game resembled the first 20 minutes with three more ties and three lead changes. Bloomsburg would finally take the lead for good when Johnson hit a jumper with 16 minutes to go in the game giving the Huskies a 40-38 lead. The bucket started a 9-3 run for Bloomsburg giving them a six-point edge with 14:16 to go.
 
Later the Huskies stretched the lead to 56-46 helped along by a three-pointer from Johnson and a layup by Webster. The 10-point lead was the first of three such leads for Bloomsburg, the last coming at 63-53 with 6:15 to go on a jumper by Ed Hall (Washington, DC/Paint Branch).
 
From there, the Warriors rallied using a 12-6 run to cut the lead to 69-65 with 2:09 to go after Whis Grant hit one of two from the free throw line. After a Bloomsburg miss and a Huskies turnover, ESU's Duane Johnson hit two free throws with 1:09 to go making it a 69-67 game.

After the Huskies missed a three-point attempt with the shot clock winding down, ESU called timeout to set up a play. However, Russell Graham's shot was off the mark with Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) grabbing the rebound. Jordan hit one of two from the line giving the Warriors one final shot with 3.2 seconds left. But, Graham's shot was off the mark giving the Huskies a big road win.
 
Along with Webster's 16 points, Johnson scored 15, while Ed Hall (Washington, DC/Paint Branch) chipped in with 14 and Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) 12. East Stroudsburg got 21 points from Grant and 17 points from Graham.
 
Bloomsburg will host Kutztown on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
