MEET RESULTS
SHIPPENSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team posted a 116-87 win over Shippensburg University on Tuesday in the season-opener for the Huskies. It was the first win for the Huskies at Shippensburg since 2004-05 season.
Leading the Huskies in the meet was
Bridget Hilferty (Royersford/Perkiomen Valley), coming off a season in which she was a two-time honorable mention All-American, who had first place finishes in the 500- and 1000-free events. In the 500 she posted a mark of 5:18.82, while in the 1000 she had a mark of 10:45.94.
Freshman
Morgan Johnston (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) wasted no time showing her talent in his first collegiate swim. Johnston won the 100-breaststroke in a time of 1:10.48 and should continue to see time in dual meets throughout the season.
Also taking first in the 200-free was
Kaci McIlmoyle (Landenberg/Avon Grove) with a time of 1:59.11, while in the 100-fly
Mel Redican (Dresher/Upper Dublin) was first in 1:01.71.
Finishing second in the 1000-free was
Alicia Frey (Ellicot City, MD/Wilde Lake) in 11:00.15, while in the 50-free
Ashley Dix (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) was second in 25.51 seconds followed by
Meghan Gallagher (Aston/Sun Valley) in third at 25.74.
In the 200-IM
Kelsey Brooker (Stevens/Cocalico) was second in 2:15.60 with
Jess McGarry (Philadelphia/St. Hubert) third in the 100-breast in 1:12.60 and
Meghan Gallagher (Aston/Sun Valley) second in the 100-free in 55.44.
Bloomsburg won seven of the 11 events contested Tuesday night and had nine swimmers account for 11 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times in the first meet of the year.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. against West Chester.
