Huskies Aim to Repeat Previous Success against Lincoln

BLOOMSBURG – The last time the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team faced the Lincoln University Lions, the Huskies put together a record-breaking performance that will be hard to top when the teams face off on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium at 7 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on WHLM (930-AM) based out of Bloomsburg with Jim Doyle and Larry White calling all the action. In addition, listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on BU's website at www.buhuskies.com. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes before tipoff.

No current members of the Huskies (2-1) were born and head coach John Sanow had just graduated from Indiana (PA) University when Bloomsburg last played Lincoln.  On Nov. 21, 1987, the Huskies established a school-record for points in a single game in a 133-70 victory, including a school-record 54 made field goals.

The high-scoring affair snapped the old mark of 114 set against Shippensburg in 1957.  Joe Stepanski led eight players in double figures with 24 points, while Matt Wilson added 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies in the record-breaking game.

Despitethe 1987-88 team setting the bar pretty high for Wednesday night's contest, the 2012-13 edition of the Huskies has gotten off to a great start to its season after a  dramatic come-from-behind victory it's last time on the floor.

Bloomsburg overcame a 15-point deficit with under seven minutes to play against Chestnut Hill to earn an 88-86 overtime victory last Tuesday. Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) made the biggest shot of his career with a game-winning jumper with 1.9 seconds left in overtime to lift the Huskies to victory.  It sealed a 23-point, 20-rebound performance for Jordan who played a team-high 41 minutes in BU's dramatic comeback victory.

Jordan, along with freshman Wes Lyons (Millville/Millville), each recorded a double-double in the victory.  For their performances against the Griffins, both players were named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athletes of the Week.  Jordan earned the Athlete of the Week, while Lyons was named the Freshman of the Week.

Jordan scored 23 points while grabbing 20 rebounds as he rates second in the PSAC at 14.7 boards per game. Jordan is the first player to grab 20 rebounds for Bloomsburg since Mark Day had 20 against East Stroudsburg in the 1996-97 season.

For the season, both players are averaging over 15 points and eight rebounds per clip.  Jordan leads Bloomsburg at 18 points and is second in the PSAC with 14.7 rebounds per game. Lyons is averaging 15 points in his two games this season and pulls down eight rebounds per game.  He is also tied for the team-lead with six steals.

The Huskies hold a 127-94 rebounding advantage this season. However, Lincoln has out-rebounded its opponent in two consecutive games.

The Lions (3-1) are coming off a 67-56 win over Northern Michigan on the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran University last week.  Kenny Sharpe poured in a game-high 20 points and is Lincoln's leading scorer at 14.5 per clip. He also added six assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals in the win.

Will Cole and George Jackson round out the trio of double figure scorers at 13 and 12.5 points per game, respectively.  Cole also grabs a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game as the matchup of Cole and Jordan should make for an entertaining matchup on the block Wednesday night.

After their game against Lincoln, the Huskies return home to open PSAC-play on Saturday, Dec. 1 against Slippery Rock beginning at 3 p.m.  BU will also play Edinboro on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m.
