BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team nearly rallied from a 30-point second half deficit, but ended up falling to Edinboro University, 85-73, Sunday afternoon at the Nelson Field House.
Trailing 53-29 at halftime, Edinboro (5-0, 2-0 PSAC) built its lead to 62-32 with 17:11 to play. The Huskies though came roaring back on the strength of a 21-4 run to make it 66-53 with 10:33 to play. Leading the charge for Bloomsburg (2-4, 0-2 PSAC) was
Charles Haigler (Charles Town, WV/Hargrave Military Academy) and
Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport). Haigler scored nine points, including a dunk, while Jordan scored seven points, including a three-pointer to get the rally started.
After Edinboro went back on top by 13 points, Haigler drained a three-pointer and Jordan converted two free throws to make it an eight-point game, 68-60, with 7:49 to go. That would be as close as the Huskies would get in the game.
With Edinboro back on top 80-66 with a minute to go, the Huskies did close to within nine points after Jordan rebounded a missed three-pointer and scored. Then
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) hit a three-pointer, his 15th-straight game with a three-pointer, making it 80-71 with 37 seconds to play.
The Fighting Scots though hit five of six free throws in the closing 30 seconds to seal the victory.
The game opened with Edinboro grabbing a nine-point lead 14-5 in the first four minutes of play. The Huskies rallied and trimmed the deficit to a point, 16-15, with a 10-2 run.
Wes Lyons (Millville/Millville) led the way with eight points, including six straight, for Bloomsburg.
Edinboro then put together a 21-2 run over the next seven minutes to lead 37-17 with 6:38 to go in the half and later led by as many as 26 points before going to the break up by 24.
Haigler and Jordan both finished with a game-high 21 points with Haigler's total being a career-high. The freshman hit eight of 14 shots from the field (1-2 three-pointers), had four rebounds, four assists and six steals. Jordan added nine rebounds and three assists in the loss.
Edinboro had four players in double figures led by Jay Fletcher with 20 points, while Johnathan Logan scored 16 points, Isaiah Prince 15 and Bryan Theriot 14.
Bloomsburg will open its PSAC Eastern Division schedule on Saturday at Millersville starting at 3 p.m.
