Huskies Power Past Mountaineers, 81-60

Box Score BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) scored his 1,000th career point as the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team (17-7, 13-6 PSAC) upended Mansfield (18-5, 5-14 PSAC) on the road, 81-60.  Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) scored a season high 20 points to pace the Huskies past the Mountaineers, ending a six game road losing streak to Mansfield.

Johnson becomes the 25th player in BU school history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone. With Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) doing it earlier this season, it is the first time since the 2002-03 season that two players reach 1,000 career points in the same season.

A big factor in today's win for the Huskies was how well the shot the ball.  Bloomsburg made 58.6% of their attempts from the field while knocking down 52.9% of their three point attempts.

The opening minutes of the first half was played very competitively as neither team was able to take control of the game.  Bloomsburg would eventually hold a 12-11 lead at the 14:41 mark of the half.

From that point on Bloomsburg would orchestrate an 18-4 run over the next nine minutes to take a 35-15 lead.  Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) put an exclamation point on the run by hitting three straight threes on BU's final three possessions to put Bloomsburg ahead by 20.

The Huskies would go on to take a 13 point lead at the break, 39-26.  Bloomsburg's offense was paced by Christmas and Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) as the duo both put up double digit points.  Christmas registered 17 first half points, 15 coming from down town while Jordan chipped in another 10 points and five boards.

Mansfield opened the second half by scoring on their first possession, cutting the BU lead to 11 points.  However, this would be as close as the Mountaineers would get to the Huskies for the remainder of the game as Bloomsburg used a 23-7 run over the next eight minutes to take a commanding 27 point lead.

Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) connected on a layup and a jumper to give Bloomsburg a 66-40 lead, but more notably with those four points Johnson scored his 1,000th career point.  From there Bloomsburg would go up by as many as 30 points before sealing a 21 point win over the Mountaineers, 81-60.

Christmas led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting including a 6-for-8 mark from three point range.  He also made four steals.  Jordan was not far behind in scoring as he put up 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds.

For Mansfield, Joe Bell led the team with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Bloomsburg will look to build on tonight's win as they travel to Kutztown this Saturday, February 18th for a PSAC East showdown.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
