HAMPTON, VA—The Bloomsburg University baseball team rallied for a 9-6 win late Friday night over Lock Haven in a game that was delayed by rain. Bloomsburg used a five run eighth inning to seal the win; all five runs coming with two outs. Earlier in the day the Huskies beat Briarcliffe College 13-3 in the Apprentice School Builder Invitational. Senior lefty
Vinny Voorhees (New Hope/New Hope Solebury) picked up his first win of the season as he struck out six batters in four innings of work.
Bloomsburg trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the eighth inning but the BU bats made a lot of noise in the bottom half of the inning as they posted a five spot.
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) and
Paul Rosa IV (Wyomissing/Wilson) opened the inning with back-to-back singles. However, BU's next two at-bats would result in outs.
The Huskies' next two batters would be hit by pitches, bringing in one run followed by a
Vince Smarrelli (Mt. Airy, MD/Urbana) single that drove in two more. Freshman
Tom Richards (Scranton/West Scranton) would single next for Bloomsburg as he drove in a run while another BU runner scored on a throwing error, putting BU ahead by three entering the ninth. Bloomsburg keep Lock Haven off the scoreboard as they held on for a 9-6 win.
Kyle Hunter (Lehighton/Lehighton) picked up the win as he threw the final three innings of the game, striking out two and allowing just two hits.
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson),
Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley), and Smarrelli all drove in two RBI's apiece.

After a scoreless first inning, Bloomsburg got on the board in the second on a
Josh Schroeder (Scranton/West Scranton) single that brought in one run. The third inning is when the Huskies really did some damage as they put up a five spot to take a 6-0 lead.
BU's five run inning began as
Tim Kurucz (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded which brought in a run. With two outs and the bases loaded
Paul Rosa IV (Wyomissing/Wilson) found the gap in right center field, driving in three runs to put Bloomsburg up 5-0. The inning was capped as Rosa scored on a single by Schroeder.
Following a
Tom Richards (Scranton/West Scranton) RBI in the fourth inning, the Huskies added another six runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 13-3 win.
Vinny Voorhees (New Hope/New Hope Solebury) picked up the win for the Huskies as he allowed just one run on two hits while striking out six batters in four innings pitched.
Cody Heane (McClure/Indian Valley) threw the final three innings, striking out three.
Offensively, Rosa went 2-for-2 with four RBIs while scoring two himself. Schroeder was 3-for-4 from the plate, driving in three runs. In total the Huskies scored 13 runs on 11 hits in their first win of the 2012 season.
Bloomsburg is back in action tonight as they take on Lock Haven at 6:00 p.m. in BU's third game of the Apprentice School Builder Invitational.
