HAMPTON, VA—The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a close one to the Golden Bears of Kutztown, 4-2 in the fourth game of the Apprentice School Builder Invitational. After a shaky beginning, Bloomsburg's
Bryan Morris (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) came in for relief work to throw a great game, pitching 5.1 innings while striking out four batters.
Bloomsburg got on the board in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. With one out
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) was hit by a pitch and would steal second on BU's next at bat. After a groundout by the Huskies, Ravel advanced to third base and would eventually score on a throwing error by the Kutztown catcher.
The Golden Bears responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs, taking a 2-1 lead. Neither team scored in the second nor third innings as Kutztown maintained their one run advantage.
Paul Rosa got things going for the Huskies in the top of the fourth as he singled to lead off the inning. Rosa would eventually make his way to third on a sacrifice hit followed by a wild pitch. With one out
Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) was thrown out trying to steal second which would allow Rosa to score.
Kutztown answered with another run in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim a one run lead. The Golden Bears scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and would go on to win the game 4-2.
Bryan Morris (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) picked up the loss for the Huskies. He pitched five and a third innings, striking out four batters and allowing just one earned run. Kutztown's Tom Neely was credited with the win as he threw four innings of shutout ball.
With the loss Bloomsburg wrapped up the first three days of the Apprentice School Builder Invitational with a 2-2 record. They are one of three teams to go 2-2 and with only allowing 20 runs they are the finish second entering the final day of play. The Huskies will take on Kutztown, the number one team with a 4-0 record, tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
