Men’s Basketball Edges Millersville in Regular Season Finale, 72-71

Box Score BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team won another close game, this time against Millersville in the regular season finale, 72-71.  With the win Bloomsburg finishes the year tied for first place in the PSAC East but Kutztown will be the top seed in the tournament as they won tiebreaker.

Today's game was the final regular season home game for five Bloomsburg seniors and all five Huskies were honored prior to tip-off.  In addition all five got the start in today's game.

Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) was one of two double figure scorers today as he put up a game high 19 points and nine rebounds as he guided the Huskies to their 19th win of the season.  John Schwarz (Delta/Perry Hall) was the other double digit scorer as he scored 12 points.

Bloomsburg got off to another slow start to today's game, going down 9-0 less than three minutes into regulation.  Millersville extended their lead to 10 in the first half around the 13 minute mark.  The Marauder lead hovered around seven points for most of the half but a resilient BU squad would go into the break down by just four points, 39-35.

Jordan and Schwarz paced the Huskies in the first half by scoring 12 points apiece.  They also combined for eight rebounds.

The Huskies made a turnaround in the second half as they opened play with a 13-6 run to take a 48-45 lead at the 16:54 mark.  Three players scored for BU during this time with Jordan and Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) scoring five points each while Nnamdi Njoku (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) added another three points with all three coming on free throw attempts.

Neither team would take a commanding lead from this point on as the lead teetered back and forth as six lead changes occurred and seven ties were held.

Fast-forwarding to the 1:25 mark as Millersville owns a three point lead, 71-68.  Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) cut the Marauder lead to just one at the 1:03 mark after going 2-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Maybe the biggest defensive play for the Huskies came next as Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) and Njoku trapped Millersville's Larry Grant on the sideline before Njoku would come away with a steal.  The steal would lead to a Njoku layup with 41 seconds to play, putting Bloomsburg ahead 72-71.

With 16 seconds left Njoku would have a chance to put BU up by three points but would miss two foul shots.  Following a Millersville rebound, Mike Seibert missed a game winning three but teammate Larry Grant would grab the rebound.  Grant put back the missed shot only to have his layup blocked by Jordan.  The blocked shot would go off a Millersville player with 0.4 seconds remaining, giving BU the victory.

Although Bloomsburg only had Jordan and Schwarz in double figures, four others were just one basket away from double digits.  Johnson and Webster both had nine while Njoku and Christmas each had eight.  For the Marauders, Elija Obade led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Bloomsburg will be back in action this Tuesday, February 28th as they host West Chester in the PSAC quarterfinals.  Game-time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Field House in Bloomsburg, PA.  It will be Bloomsburg's first home playoff game since the 2000-01 season.

Ticket prices for the games will be $7 for adults, $2 for students and seniors with students from PSAC schools admitted free with ID.
