PHILADELPHIA, PA—The Bloomsburg University baseball team fell this afternoon to Franklin Pierce University 11-3.
Tom Richards (Scranton/West Scranton) and
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) combined for six of Bloomsburg's 11 hits.
Franklin Pierce got on the scoreboard first by scoring two runs in the top of the third inning and would eventually go up 3-0 in the top of fifth.
Aaron Russell (Montoursville/Montoursville) got things started for the Huskies in the bottom of the fifth with a one-out single.
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) and
Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) would work back-to-back walks on Bloomsburg's next two at-bats.
Following a Bloomsburg out,
Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) stepped up to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. The junior catcher would rise to the occasion as he singled, scoring Russell and Ravel to cut the lead to 3-2.
Unfortunately for the Huskies, Franklin Pierce responded with six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-2 lead. This would prove to be too much for the Huskies as Bloomsburg fell 11-3.
Eversole finished the game by going 1-for-3 at the plate, driving in two runs and working two walks.
Tom Richards (Scranton/West Scranton) had three singles today as he went 3-for-5 from the plate while
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) did the same thing in one less at bat.
Matt Kline (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) was today's starting pitcher as he threw 5.2 innings and struck out one batter.
The Huskies will be back on the diamond tomorrow as they travel to take on Winston Salem State in a double-header. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Winston Salem, NC.
