WILSON, NC—The Bloomsburg University baseball team fell to host Barton College, 4-3. Bloomsburg led for most of the game until Barton rallied in the eighth and ninth innings for four runs to drop the Huskies to 8-6 on the season.
After three scoreless innings,
Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) hit a two-out, two-run homerun in the top of the fourth inning to put Bloomsburg ahead 2-0.
Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) scored on the homer as he led off the inning with a single and a stolen base.
The Huskies added to their lead in the seventh inning as
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) scored on a fielding error, putting Bloomsburg up 3-0. Smith led the seventh inning off with a single and stole second which set-up the run scored.
Barton scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, cutting the Bloomsburg lead to 3-2. Both runs came on a two outs single by Chris Rawlings.
Clinging to a 3-2 lead the Huskies looked to shutdown Barton in the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately for the Huskies, Barton scored two more runs in the ninth as Bloomsburg fell, 4-3.
Kramer had a solid day at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Eversole finished by going 1-for-1 with his only hit being a homerun while driving in two runs and walking twice.
Bloomsburg starting pitcher
Mike Streisel (Tamaqua/Tamaqua Area) threw six scoreless, striking out six batters and allowed just three hits.
The Huskies will have a few days off before returning to the diamond to take on Millersville in a double-header PSAC East opener on Friday, March 16th. Game one of the double-header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Millersville, PA.
